Valeriu Iftime
[edit]Valeriu Iftime (born 31 May 1960) is a Romanian businessman, sports executive, and politician affiliated with The National Liberal Party (PNL)[1] He is widely recognized for his contributions to regional development, energy efficiency, and football management, particularly through his ownership at FC Botoșani and Elsaco.
Business Career
[edit]He is the owner of FC Botoșani[2] a soccer club competing in Romania’s top division. His involvement in sports has made him a well-known figure in Romanian football, [3] with FC Botoșani consistently competing in Liga I and securing sponsorships through his business network.[4] Despite financial challenges, Iftime has ensured the club remains competitive, investing in player development and infrastructure.[5][6]
Valeriu Iftime is also the Owner and President of Elsaco[7], a company specializing in energy efficiency solutions, automation, and IT&C services. Under his leadership, Elsaco has contributed significantly to Romania’s infrastructure and technological development, securing contracts for major energy projects, including the rehabilitation of Bucharest’s heating network[8]. His business ventures have earned him recognition as one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the country, with an estimated fortune exceeding 100 million euros.[9]
Political Career
[edit]In 2024, Iftime entered politics and was elected President of the Botoșani County Council[10]
His leadership in the region aligns with the pro-European policies of the National Liberal Party (PNL). He has been vocal about regional development and European integration, advocating for Botoșani to continue on a "Pro-European Route"[11]
At the beginning of 2024, he was elected as the leader of PNL Botoșani, further solidifying his influence in local politics. [12]His tenure has been marked by efforts to improve infrastructure, economic growth, and education in the region.
Educational Advocacy
[edit]Recently, he expressed disappointment that Botoșani does not have an Olympic-level high school student in mathematics,[13] emphasizing his commitment to improving educational opportunities in the region. His focus on education aligns with his broader vision for regional development.
Personal Life
[edit]Valeriu Iftime has two kids, Vlad and Șerban Iftime. They took over the management of two companies in the Elsaco portfolio.[14] His family’s involvement in business ensures continuity in the company’s leadership.
