Tshwane FM
[edit]Tshwane FM is a South African campus-based community radio station based in Pretoria, Gauteng. It broadcasts from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and serves the greater Tshwane metropolitan area..[1]. The station was originally launched in 1994 as Top Stereo and rebranded to Tshwane FM in 2004. Tshwane FM operates on a frequency of 93.6 FM and offers live streaming through its website and mobile app[2].
History
[edit]Tshwane FM began as a student-run training platform at the TUT, aimed at providing practical experience to students pursuing media and broadcasting studies. Initially known as Top Stereo, the station focused on campus-based programming and student development.
In 2004, the station underwent a strategic rebranding to Tshwane FM, aligning itself more closely with the identity of the City of Tshwane. Since then, it has expanded its programming and reach to include a broader community audience across Pretoria and surrounding areas[3].
In 2010, the station underwent a significant rebranding and was officially renamed Tshwane FM, aligning its identity with South Africa’s capital city and embracing a wider community-based mission. Over the past two decades, Tshwane FM has grown into a dynamic and influential voice in the local media landscape, offering a vibrant mix of music, talk shows, news, and culturally relevant content[4]
Since 2023, Tshwane FM is led by Station Manager Tebogo Jacko Magubane, a seasoned broadcaster with over 20 years of industry experience[5][6]. Under his leadership, the station continues to innovate while staying true to its core values of community engagement, creativity, and inclusivity[7]. [8]
