T. J. Beisner (born June 23)[1] is a sports executive known for his roles in collegiate and professional basketball, particularly in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) strategy. At the time of his hiring in 2021, the University of Kentucky billed Beisner as the first person hired by an NCAA institution to oversee NIL.[2]

Career

[edit]

Sports Media Career

[edit]

From 2012 to 2018, Beisner hosted Time Warner Cable's Kentucky Sports Television and served as senior managing editor of KentuckySportsRadio.com.[3] In 2018, Beisner joined JMI Sports as the Director of Digital Media and Content Development, where he oversaw the UK Sports Network and CoachCal.com, the official website of John Calipari.[4]

University of Kentucky

[edit]

In August 2021, the Kentucky basketball program named Beisner as its first Director of Player Development in program history.[5] In his role, Beisner oversaw all off-court management and development of Kentucky's basketball players and assisted with recruiting.[1]

During Beisner's tenure at Kentucky, the Wildcats signed six five-star players, including four ranked number one overall in their class at some point: Shaedon Sharpe, Aaron Bradshaw, DJ Wagner, and Justin Edwards.[6] Future NBA players Sharpe, TyTy Washington, Cason Wallace, Chris Livingston, Antonio Reeves, Rob Dillingham, Reed Sheppard and Adou Thiero all also signed during this period.[6]

Beisner also helped Oscar Tshiebwe, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, navigate NIL restrictions due to his F visa status[7]. Tshiebwe went on to win 2022 National Player of the Year and return to Kentucky for his senior year in the 2022-23 season.[8]

University of North Carolina

[edit]

In September 2023, after winning a gold medal at the Globl Jam[9], Beisner departed Kentucky to lead the North Carolina Tar Heels NIL operations.[10] Media speculation at the time suggested left Kentucky to be closer to his family.[11]

Following Beisner's departure from Kentucky, Calipari referred to him as "my trusted lieutenant" and "jack of all trades" and wished him well.[12] A year after Beisner left Kentucky, Calipari did so as well.[13]

In 2024, Beisner issued an apology to Kylie Jenner on behalf of his client, Paxson Wojcik, after rumors circulated that Jenner had ended her relationship with Timothee Chalamet and entered into a relationship with Wojcik after he appeared in a national campaign for Skims.[7]

NBA Agent

[edit]

As of February 2025, Beisner is working as a basketball agent and certified by the NBA and FIBA.[14]

Personal life

[edit]

Beisner grew up in Coppell, Texas[2] before graduating from South Oldham High School.[15] He is married to his wife, Monique and they have two sons.[2]
