Career
[edit]Early life and education
[edit]Yee joined the family business, Twin County Cable, in 1978 while still a student, and later graduated from Lehigh University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing and a minor in international relations.[7] She recalled working in the company from an early age, “stamping bills PAST DUE when I was 5 years old.”[8]
Cable television
[edit]In 1993, Yee was named chief operating officer of Twin County Cable, the Lehigh Valley’s second-largest cable system,[9] and was elected to a three-year term on the national board of C-SPAN.[10]
From the 1960's to the early 1990s, Twin County Cable competed directly with Service Electric in the Lehigh Valley market. The Pittsburgh Press described this period as a “cable duel,” highlighting aggressive competition for subscribers.[11] In October 1994, industry consolidation reshaped the region when C-TEC Corp. acquired Twin County Trans Video, adding more than 74,000 customers.[12]
Entrepreneurship
[edit]In 1995, Yee founded Regional Network Communications, Inc. (RNCI) and launched Region Online, one of the Lehigh Valley’s first web portals.[13] In 1999, she launched Active Data, Inc., developing online calendaring software. In 2014, Yee and Active Data were recognized as the Winner of the SmartCEO Voltage Award in the Emerging Innovator Startup category.[14] Active Data transferred its trademarks to Dude Solutions in 2017.[15]
In 1995, she co-founded Regional Network Communications and launched Region Online.[16] Archived company pages confirm the firm’s operations in the late 1990s.[17] The Region Online project was one of the first community web portals in the Lehigh Valley.[18][19]
In 1999, she founded Active Data, a web-based calendaring and event management platform.[20] Archived versions of the company’s website show its early product offerings.[21]
Boards and leadership
[edit]Yee chaired the board of Lehigh Valley Public Media from 2022 to 2024.[22] She was a trustee of Lehigh Valley Health Network from 1997 to 2020 and continues to serve on the hospital board.[23] She also serves on the board of trustees of Lehigh University[24] and on the Dean’s Advisory Council of its College of Education.[25]
Community and investing
[edit]Yee founded SCY Investments in 1995.[26] She is a charter member of the Broad Street Angels, which has invested over $10 million in startups since 2017.[27] She has judged regional entrepreneurship competitions such as StartUp Lehigh Valley.[28]
