Sayyod Mirzomurodov (born 18 January 1995) is an Uzbek clarinetist and music educator based in the United States. He has been the subject of feature profiles in BBC Uzbek and Ovozi Tojik, which highlighted his performances of contemporary Uzbek clarinet repertoire.[1][2] He serves as the International Country Chair for Uzbekistan at the International Clarinet Association.[3]

Biography

Mirzomurodov was born in Sariosiyo, Surxondaryo Region, Uzbekistan. In 2004 he moved to Tashkent, where he studied at the Specialized Music Academic Lyceum named after V. Uspensky.

He entered the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan in 2012, studying clarinet performance and music education. He later earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa and is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in clarinet performance at the University of Iowa.

Career

Mirzomurodov has performed internationally and has premiered works by Uzbek composers including Mustafo Bafoyev, Nurali Erkaev, Sherzod Sobirov, and Farrukh Akramov. In March 2025, his doctoral recital at the University of Iowa featured several world premieres.[4]

He has appeared in recital at Augustana College in Illinois, presenting a program of Uzbek repertoire,[5] and performed at the Princess Galyani Vadhana International Music Festival in Bangkok with the Center for New Music Ensemble, directed by David Gompper.[6]

He is scheduled to appear at Carnegie Hall in March 2026 as part of the Golden Classical Music Awards winners’ concert.[7]

Recognition

In 2025, BBC Uzbek published a feature interview with Mirzomurodov about his musical career in Uzbekistan and the United States.[8] That same year, the Tajik newspaper Ovozi Tojik ran a full-length profile highlighting his role in presenting contemporary Uzbek clarinet repertoire abroad.[9]

His work has also been noted in the cultural magazine Kultura.uz[10] and the student newspaper Northern Iowan.[11]
