Sabarisan Vedamurthy (also known as Sabareesan) is an Indian entrepreneur and son-in-law of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin[1]. Sabarisan is also notable for his involvement in private space technology[2] and academic philanthropy[3] in the field of Dravidian studies in India and abroad.

Political Role and Reputation

Sabarisan is a strategist, advisor, and facilitator within DMK Party, especially during M.K. Stalin's leadership [4][5]. He work behind-the-scenes in modernization of DMK, focusing on digital outreach and branding through technology-driven campaign approaches and social media engagement[6][7].

Sabarisan facilitated the collaboration between DMK and political strategist Prashant Kishor’s IPAC for the 2021 assembly elections[8][9][10], resulted party’s electoral victory on assembly election 2021[11].

Vaanam Spacetech

In 2024, Sabarisan Vedamurthy co-founded Vaanam [12][13], India’s first sector-specific private spacetech accelerator[14]. Objective of Vaanam is to empower young space entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu through access to resources and mentorship[15] with the help of Indian scientists such as former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan[16][17] and includes an advisory board with industrialist Ravi Mariwala and actor R. Madhavan[18]. The effort is to support the next generation in the rapidly advancing space technology sector.

Vidhai Accelerator and Startup Initiatives

Sabarisan serves on the advisory board of Vidhai Accelerator[19], which provides support for emerging technology startups, particularly empowering entrepreneurs from tier-2 and tier-3 cities[20]. This mentorship expected to support Tamil Nadu's reputation as a hub for startups[21]

Endowment to Cambridge University

In June 2025, Sabarisan, together with his wife, announced a major philanthropic gift to the University of Cambridge[22][23][24]. The donation will help with permanent PhD studentship and ongoing research support focused on the Dravidian movement’s impact on public policy, politics, and economic development in Tamil Nadu[25]. The M. Karunanidhi Scholarships at Cambridge, created in honour of the former Chief Minister and Dravidian movement leader, expected to benefit students from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and to promote global understanding of Tamil Nadu’s developmental model and social justice ethos[26]. The initiative aims to amplify global understanding of Tamil Nadu Economy, focusing on themes such as inclusion, equity, welfare, and grassroots political mobilisation[27].

Academic Contributions

SOAS University of London received 200 books from Sabarisan covering the history, politics, and literature of Dravidian ideology to establish a dedicated section in the library of the School of Oriental and African Studies, London[28]. This initiative aims to make Dravidian literature accessible to international students and researchers.

Personal Life

Sabarisan Vedamurthy was born on 17 July 1976[29] in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His native place is Tirunelveli. He is married to Senthamarai Stalin, daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, and they have two children. His father Vedamurthy passed away in Chennai on 11 Sep 2025, due to ill health at the age of 80[30][31][32][33][34].
