The ST Offline Tournament (STOT) is an offline gaming tournament for games created for the Atari ST computer.

It is run in a dedicated section of the Atari Forum.[1]

Seasons and rounds

The STOT is divided into seasons. Each season consists of a number of rounds. One or more games are played in each round. Players receive points based on their final ranking in each game.

Round naming convention:

The format for an identifier of a chosen game is: S{Season Number}R{Round Number}. For example, the game Chroma Grid, played in Season 7, Round 2, has the identifier: S07R02 Chroma Grid.

Games

Either the organisers announce the game(s) for a round, or a vote is held on the forum. If new Atari ST games are released that can be played in a competition, they take priority and will be played as soon as possible. This rule ensures that the authors of new games receive feedback from as many people as possible as soon as possible.

Hardware

Games can be played on real Atari ST or Atari STE hardware, new hardware such as a MiST, MiSTer or Suska, or on emulators such as Hatari or STeem.

Players

Players come from all over the world. To participate, you need an Atari-Forum account. Only registered users can post scores.

Actual rules since season 5:

A season takes a year and consists of 12 rounds. Each round takes a month, with one or more games being played in each round. At the end of the month, the player with the highest score wins. Each player who participates in a game receives a point.

Example:

Player A scores 100 points, Player B scores 50 points and Player C scores 10 points. Player C gets 1 point for participating, Player B gets 2 points (1 point for participating and 1 point for beating one player) and Player C gets 4 points (1 point for participating, 2 points for beating two players and 1 point for winning).

Former rules in seasons 1–4:

A season consisted of 24 rounds. Each round took two weeks, with one game being played per round. At the end of the month, the player with the highest score won the round. The winner received 8 points, second place received 6 points, third place received 4 points, fourth place received 3 points, fifth place received 2 points, and any other player received 1 point.

History:

STOT was founded in 2007[2]
by þorN (Thorsten Butschke). ChrisTos and SSB became members of the organiser team.

The first high score club tournaments on Atari Age appeared at that time, and the goal was to create something similar for Atari ST games.

Xerus was the dominating player in the first 4 seasons. However, a few rounds were also won by various other players.

In 2011, it stopped due to a lack of time to organise it.

Due to demand from various players, the tournament was restarted in 2023.

Seasons 5 and 6 saw more round winners than before, with Wietze winning most of the rounds he participated in.

Authors Support

As well as participating in rounds where we play their game, some authors have also supported the STOT with special versions or prizes:

  • In S03R03, SSB, the author of Attack Wave, gave away a unique, self-made 3.5-inch disk with a winner's certificate to participants.
  • In S07R05, ThomasI, the author of Randominer, created a special STOT version of the game that involved a scoring competition [3]
