| Submission declined on 4 October 2025 by BuySomeApples (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Robert J. Guidry, who goes by the name Bobby, is a businessman and political donor in Louisiana and Florida. He paid a fine and was sentenced to probation after bribing former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards for a gaming license.[1] One of his attorneys in that case later accused him of bribing a U.S. attorney with the help of a congressman in exchange for light sentencing.[2]
His father Numa Guidry established a fishing business that developed into an offshore supply company Robert Guidry led.[3]
He owned the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner, Louisiana.[4] He plead guilty to paying $1.4 million to Edwin Edwards and others for a riverboat casino license. He testified that he delivered the bribe money in $100,000 cash bundles to Edwards and his son. Guidry was allowed to keep the $80 million he received selling the gambling business and served no jail time.[5] The family was involved in a fistfight at a Morton's Steakhouse with a gaming business rival.[6]
Guidry made several contributions via his businesses to LaToya Cantrell's campaign for mayor of New Orleans.[7] He donated $250,000 to Ron DeSantis' campaign committee in 2018.[8] In 2024 he had 28 companies registered in Florida and was the largest donor to political campaigns in Okaloosa County, Florida in 2024.[9]
Guidry got into the real estate development business innthe two decades following the bribery scandal. L[3] In 2025, Florida state senator Jay Trumbull inserted language in a bill for the state to buy a four acre property in Destin, Florida for more than $83 million. Ron DeSantis and his cabinet signed off on the purchase that uses land conservation funds. The land was acquired by Guidry's business interests in 2016 and 2017 for about $8 million. The property is next to Norriego Point Beach Access and Park and would be managed by Okaloosa County.[8]
Guidry and his property development partner in Destin hired a former Okaloosa County Commissioner and state attorney office executive director Graham Fountain. Fountain previously defended the arrest and confiscation of the phone of a City of Destin council member who was critical of Guidry and his partner's development plans. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis later removed the city councilor from her elected office.[10]
Guidry's son Shane Guidry is also a major donor to Republicans.[5]
