Oxford Scholars Programme

[edit]

Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) is a selective academic and leadership enrichment programme held annually at colleges of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Designed for high-achieving high school students aged 14–18 from around the world, the programme is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and holds British Council accreditation for English language teaching.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The Oxford Scholars Programme (OSP) was established by Oxford alumni to offer high-achieving students an academically rigorous and culturally immersive pre-university experience. The founders designed OSP to provide a transformative programme focused on academic excellence, global leadership, and early career exploration.[3]

In 2023, OSP received accreditation from the British Accreditation Council (BAC), followed by British Council accreditation for teaching of English as a foreign language in 2025. Today, the programme operates annually across several Oxford colleges, maintaining a selective admissions process and hosting students from over 30 nationalities each summer.[4]

Academic Programmes

[edit]

Humanities & International Relations

[edit]

This track covers philosophy, politics, international relations, and literature, with an emphasis on critical thinking, argumentation, and written analysis. Students explore political systems, negotiation, diplomacy, and global affairs through interactive workshops, including debate activities and a diplomatic simulation challenge that builds real-world decision-making skills.[5]

Life Sciences & Medicine

[edit]

Students explore fields such as biology, medical science, and life sciences. Sessions often include practical demonstrations, case-based learning, and exposure to real-world medical scenarios, along with a research challenge in molecular biology that introduces students to investigative scientific methods.[6]

Business & Entrepreneurship

[edit]

Programmes cover entrepreneurship, innovation, marketing, and global business strategy. Students work on projects simulating real business challenges, including a hands-on start-up challenge where they develop and pitch their own business ideas.[7][8]

Engineering & Technology

[edit]

Students explore key engineering concepts, innovation processes, and emerging technologies. Through hands-on activities and theoretical learning, they gain exposure to fields such as robotics, AI, sustainable design, and practical engineering through drone-making workshops.[9][10]

Career Exploration Tracks

[edit]

OSP also offers tracks that introduce students to professional pathways, providing insights into industries through talks, workshops, and practical activities.[11]

Campus and Facilities

[edit]

OSP is held on the premises of Oxford University, where students are typically accommodated in residential facilities located in Oxford including the St. Hugh's College, St. Anne's College, Linacre College and Somerville College. Programme activities take place across various venues in the city, including educational buildings, sports facilities, and cultural institutions.

OSP is not part of the University of Oxford and is not authorized, approved, endorsed or otherwise associated with the University of Oxford. The programme hires University of Oxford facilities during the summer and contracts with colleges of the University of Oxford to provide accommodation and use of facilities only.

Accreditations

[edit]

The Oxford Scholars Programme is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC), indicating that it adheres to recognized standards for academic quality and student support.[12]

The OSP also holds accreditation from the **British Council** for the teaching of English, reflecting its commitment to “internationally recognised standards of academic and pastoral excellence.” Upon completing the programme, participants receive a certificate of completion; this serves as formal recognition of their academic participation.

Partnerships

[edit]

OSP collaborates with the **National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC)** to offer high-school students enhanced access to leadership development, academic enrichment, and global networking opportunities.[13]
