Draft:Mohammed Abd Hassan

  • Comment: Converting the earlier rejection into a decline. You can keep working on this but remember that you need to show that either he has enough significant coverage to meet WP:GNG, or that his poetry/books have enough coverage that at least two of them meet the guidelines at WP:NBOOK. If you can't find enough references to show he passes either of those guidelines, I'm afraid it's time to give up and try writing about someone else. asilvering (talk) 20:14, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Mohammed Abd Hassan (محمد عبد حسن; born March 21, 1964) is an Iraqi novelist, short-story writer, and civil engineer. He is known for his contributions to contemporary Iraqi literature, particularly through his short story collections and novels that reflect the sociopolitical reality of Iraq.

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Mohammed Abd Hassan was born in the city of Basrah, Iraq, an area known for its palm trees and proximity to the Shatt Al-Arab river. These natural surroundings heavily influenced his literary themes, especially in his debut short story collection Al-Toofan (The Flood).[1]

He attended the Al-Jumhuriya Model Primary School (مدرسة الجمهورية الابتدائية التطبيقية النموذجية المختلطة) during his early years.[2]

Career

[edit]

Aside from his profession as a civil engineer, Hassan has established a strong presence in Iraqi literature since the late 20th century. He was associated with the literary group known as Jama’at al-Basra (Basrah Group), active in the final decades of the century, which contributed to the regional literary movement.[3]

His writing often portrays themes of struggle, endurance, and existential despair, as seen in works like The Flood, where characters long for death as a release from suffering.[4]

In 2020, he released the collection Game of Patience (لعبة الصبر), which received positive critical attention.[5][6]
