Michael Kopko

Michael Kopko is an American healthcare executive and entrepreneur.[1] He is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Pearl Health, a healthcare technology company that supports primary care providers participating in Medicare value-based payment models.[2] Early in his career, Kopko held leadership roles at Bridgewater Associates and Oscar Health.[3] He is also known for civic engagement work, including co-founding the nonprofit Impact Public Service Fund.[4]

Kopko has been named to the EY Entrepreneur of the Year list (New York, 2024)[5] and included in the Presidential Leadership Scholars program.[6] He has spoken at national forums such as the Health Evolution Summit,[7] lectured at Columbia Business School,[8] and authored thought leadership content on Medicare reform, value-based payment innovation, and primary care transformation through the Pearl Health blog[9] and industry publications including Health Affairs.[10]

Early life and education

Kopko studied economics as an undergraduate at Harvard College, where he founded DormAid, a student-run business offering dormitory cleaning and other services.[11] DormAid operated on more than 1,000 campuses and was featured in outlets including The New York Times, Fox News, NBC News, and Wired.[12]

After selling DormAid in 2009, Kopko earned an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he was named a Feldberg Fellow.[13] At Columbia, he focused on business strategy, law, and transactions.[14]

Career

Bridgewater Associates

Following business school, Kopko joined Bridgewater Associates, the global macro hedge fund founded by Ray Dalio.[15] At Bridgewater, he served as Head of Research Analytics, leading teams responsible for modeling global macroeconomic hypotheses and supporting internal decision-making systems, and reported to the CEO.[16]

Oscar Health

He later served as an early employee and Vice President at Oscar Health Insurance, where he ran their largest P&L (+$3 billion), built their network contracting and early sales systems, contributed to operational scaling during the company’s expansion, and helped prepare the company for its IPO in 2021.[17]

Pearl Health

In 2020, Kopko founded Pearl Health with co-founders Jeffrey De Flavio, MD, and Ankit Patel.[18] Pearl Health, based in New York City, develops software and services to support primary care providers participating in Medicare value-based payment models.[19]

Since its founding in 2020, Pearl has expanded nationally, partnering with thousands of providers across over 40 states.[20] Pearl is backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Viking Global Investors, AlleyCorp, and Ulysses Management.[21] The company’s leadership team includes physicians, technologists, public health experts, and healthcare operators.[22]

Pearl Health has been featured in outlets including Forbes,[23] Fierce Healthcare,[24] MedCity News,[25] Becker’s Hospital Review,[26] Health Tech Nerds,[27] and Hospitalogy.[28]

Recognition, civic involvement, and industry engagement

In 2024, Michael Kopko was selected as a regional winner in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year program.[29] The same year, he was selected as a Presidential Leadership Scholar.[30] He was also named to Diversity MBA’s Top 100 Under 50 list.[31]

Kopko is a co-founder of the Impact Public Service Fund.[32][33] He also serves on the board of the Feldberg Fellowship at Columbia Business School.[34]

He has participated in national business and healthcare forums as a speaker and panelist, lecturing at Columbia Business School,[35] speaking at the Health Evolution Summit,[36] and contributing to public conversations through interviews and podcasts.[37]

Kopko resides in New York City with his wife Marcela and daughters Charlotte and Victoria.
