History

[edit]

iBanFirst was established in 2016 by Pierre-Antoine Dusoulier, a former executive at Saxo Bank. The company originated from FX4Biz, founded in 2013, which obtained a payment institution license from the National Bank of Belgium the same year. In 2016, FX4Biz rebranded to iBanFirst.

The company has undergone several funding rounds:

  • In October 2016, iBanFirst raised €10 million in a funding round led by Xavier Niel.[4]
  • In November 2018, the company secured an additional €15 million in Series B funding from Serena Capital, Breega Capital, and Xavier Niel.[5]
  • In June 2020, iBanFirst raised €21 million in a Series C round led by Elaia Partners and Bpifrance.[6]
  • In 2021, Marlin Equity Partners acquired a 51% stake in the company, valuing it at approximately €200 million.[7]

In 2019, iBanFirst expanded by acquiring the Dutch payment institution NBWM[8] and the German fintech Forexfix.[9]
