Gomibo
[edit]Gomibo is an e-commerce brand active in more than 27 European countries. It sells mobile phones, subscriptions, tablets, accessories, and related services. The brand is part of the Gomibo Group and is based in Groningen, the Netherlands.[1]
Gomibo is the international counterpart of Belsimpel, the Dutch brand name under which the company continues to operate in the Netherlands. Belsimpel was founded in 2006 by Jeroen Doorenbos and Jeroen Elkhuizen.[2] The company serves both consumer and business customers in 27 markets including Germany, Belgium, and Ireland.[3] [4]
History
[edit]Gomibo was established in November 2020with the launch of operations in Germany.[5] Expansion into other European countries followed, including Ireland, France, and Italy.[6]
The company’s origins date to 2006, when Doorenbos and Elkhuizen, then students at the University of Groningen, founded DoorenbosElkhuizen VOF and launched the online store metjelaptoponline.nl. In 2007, the company opened an office in Groningen and began expanding its workforce. Initially focused on online retail, over time it expanded its product range and opened physical stores, with the first location in Groningen in 2014.[7] In 2017, the company acquired parts of bankrupt telecom company Typhone[8][9]
Business model
[edit]Gomibo operates mainly as an online telecom retailer. Revenue is generated through the sale of mobile phones, accessories, and subscriptions, either as stand-alone SIM-only plans or bundled with devices through partnerships with telecom providers. Its platforms include comparison features for devices, contracts, and pricing. [4]
Gomibo Platforms
[edit]Gomibo Platforms is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product aimed at telecom providers and retailers. It includes tools for order management, activations, and aftersales.[10][11]
Tulip Assist
[edit]Tulip Assistis a mobile device insurance service introduced in 2014. It covers damage, theft, and malfunctions and is available in several countries where Gomibo operates, including the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, and Austria.[12]
Verifai
[edit]Verifai is an identity verification product launched in 2018. It provides tools for ID document and facial recognition checks and has been used by clients including MediaMarkt and KPN. [13][14]

- 2024: Gomibo.de received recognition for its performance in the international telecom retail sector in Germany.[18]
- 2025: Ranked third most customer-friendly telecom company in the Netherlands by independent research agency MarketResponse.[19]
Headquarters and workforce
[edit]Gomibo is based at Waagstraat 1, Groningen, the Netherlands.[20] As of 2021, it employed approximately 700 people, with the majority based at the Groningen office.[3] It maintains ties with local institutions such as the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences and has taken part in events such as Zpannend Zernike, aimed at introducing children to science and technology.[21]
