Ganapati Kalar (1920 – 1944) was an Indian freedom fighter from present-day Maharashtra who participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942. He was declared an absconder by the British colonial police and was killed during an encounter in 1944.[1]

Early life

Ganapati Kalar was born in 1920 at Umared village in Nagpur district, Maharashtra.[1] He was employed in private service before joining the freedom movement.[2]

Role in the Indian independence movement

Kalar actively participated in the Quit India Movement in Nagpur in August 1942 and was involved in anti-British activities.[1] Due to his involvement, he was declared an absconder by the police.[3] In 1944, he was surrounded by the police while attempting to evade arrest and died in an encounter.[4]
