Exotec [eɡ.zo.tɛk] (formerly Exotec Solutions), is a French robotics company that designs and manufactures warehouse automation systems. Headquartered in Croix, Hauts-de-France, the company develops solutions combining autonomous mobile robots and warehouse management software. Founded in 2015 by engineers Renaud Heitz and Romain Moulin, Exotec has expanded internationally and was included in the French government's Next40 index in 2021. As of 2025, it operates in over 12 countries and has deployed more than 135 systems worldwide.

History

[edit]

Exotec was established in 2015 by two former BA Systèmes engineers.[1] In its founding year, the company secured €340,000 in seed funding.[1]

The company’s primary product is a modular goods-to-person system using autonomous mobile robots known as "Skypods". These robots are coordinated via a software platform called "Fleet Control".[2]

Its first commercial implementation took place in 2017 with French e-retailer Cdiscount, at a fulfillment center in Bordeaux.[3] The collaboration earned the “David with Goliath” award in 2018.[4]

Exotec went through several funding rounds, raising €15 million in 2018,[5] $90 million in 2020,[6] and $335 million in 2022 in a Series D round led by Goldman Sachs.[7]

Financials

[edit]

Exotec reported annual revenues of €157 million (2022), €285 million (2023), and €288 million (2024).[8][9]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2018, Exotec and Cdiscount received the “David with Goliath” award for collaboration between a startup and a large enterprise.[4] [10] 2021, Exotec was included in the Next40 index of high-growth French technology companies.[11] In January 2022, Exotec was valued as France's 25th unicorn following a $335 million funding round, and an valuation of 2 Billion $ .[12] In 2024, the company was ranked 10th on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list of the most innovative private companies.[13]
