Draft:Dev Null Productions

Dev Null Productions is a video game developer and publisher headquartered in New York with offices in Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Istanbul, and more. The venture was founded in Spring 2018 to develop cryptocurrency solutions ontop of the XRP Ledger and other blockchains but pivoted to be a game development studio in early 2023. Notable software games include The Longest Tale and Ledger City.

Early history

[edit]

In 2011, Mo Morsi was a software engineer at Red Hat working out of Syracuse, NY. Morsi first encountered the Bitcoin cryptocurrency while attending an event about it at the local makerspace, the Syracuse Innovators Guild (SIG315), which he had founded in 2010. While being interested, Morsi did not revisit the domain of digital assets until it attained mainstream recognition in 2017. It was at that time that Morsi decided to pursue the domain full time, and shortly afterwards in spring 2018, he left his full time position at Red Hat and incorporated Dev Null Productions.

Early initiatives were focused on building solutions which leveraged the XRP digital asset, which at the time ranked at #3 by market cap according to coinmarketcap.com. Forming a partnership with Ripple Labs, the principal developers of XRP, Dev Null Productions employed up to 20 associates at a time, to develop solutions on top of the XRP ledger.

Being the first recipient in the XRPL Grant program, Dev Null Productions built and deployed Ledger City, an immersive metaverse representation of the XRPL. At its peak, the Ledger City saw 10,000 concurrent users who partook in mini-games around the virtual city, including property customization via NFTs.

The Longest Tale

[edit]

Starting in 2023, Dev Null Productions pivoted into game development, dropping most cryptocurrency initiatives. After a brief hiatus to undertake market research and strategic planning, development on The Longest Tale franchise began in earnest in 2023. The expansion of the studio in 2024 saw the onboarding of associates previously working a Sega, Ubisoft, EA, Lucas Film, and more. The principle release of the initial game is planned for winter 2025–2026, with mobile and console ports, as well as cross-medium sequels and tie-ins planned for the future.
