Delta Phi Nu Women's Fraternity (ΔΦN) is a Canadian college sorority. In was established in 2008 at Fleming College in Peterborough, Canada. Additional chapters have been added in communities and colleges in Ontario.

History

[edit]

Samantha Fox and Rebecca Gillespie, students at Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario, decided to form a women's fraternity n January 2008.[1] On May 14, 2008, their efforts culminated with the initiation of the first class of Delta Phi Nu.[1] This is considered the organization's founding date.[1]

In its early years, Delta Phi Nu developed a framework that combined academic support, leadership development, and philanthropic engagement. A second chapter was established in Oshawa, Ontario in 2014, followed by a chapter in Toronto, Ontario in 2015.[2]

Delta Phi Nu registered as a non-profit corporation in Canada on February 8, 2019.[3] Its headquarters is in Oshawa, Ontario.[3] As of 2025, sorority has initiated more than 350 members.[citation needed]

Symbols

[edit]

Delta Phi Nu's values or pillars are loyalty, knowledge, and perseverance.[4] The sorority has three patron Greek deities: Artemis, Athena, and Aphrodite.[citation needed] The sorority's colors are light blue, white, and silver.[citation needed] Its symbol is the feather.[citation needed] Its flower is the blue delphinium, while its jewel is the blue diamond.[citation needed] The sorority's mascot is the white snowy owl.[citation needed] Its publication is The Delphinium.[citation needed]

Philanthropy

[edit]

Delta Phi Nu's national philanthropy is the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA).[5] Each chapter is required to organize at least one event per academic year to raise funds or awareness in support of CMHA.[5] In addition, each chapter also supports a local philanthropic cause of its choice.[6] For example, Delta Phi Nu chapters have raised funds for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the made gift baskets for a Toronto shelter for abused women, children, and families.[7][8]

Governance

[edit]

The National Council of Delta Phi Nu was established in November 2014 as the governing body of the sorority.[9] Officers include the national president, national vice-president of membership recruitment, national vice president of internal operations, national vice president of finance and fundraising, philanthropy director, national marketing and media director, national alumnae society director, sisterhood development and events director, historian and education associate director, national advisor, and master of rituals.[10]

Organized by the National Council, DeltaCon national conference is held annually in May on the sorority’s founding weekend.[11]
