Dan O’Neill is a wildlife biologist, broadcaster and award winning documentary film maker.[1] He is known for presenting factual content about wildlife, animal behaviour, and conservation for public audiences.[2]

Dan O’Neill is a field biologist, wildlife filmmaker and television presenter whose work focuses on biodiversity monitoring, conservation and large carnivore behaviour in remote environments.[3] He has presented and directed multiple natural history series, including Snow Leopards with Dan O’Neill for Love Nature and Sky TV, which followed a conservation expedition across Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia and was nominated for a Wildscreen Festival Sustainability Panda Award.[4] In 2024, O’Neill fronted the National Geographic series Zombie Animals, and in 2023 he hosted Giants for CuriosityStream, marking the first time an openly LGBTQ+ presenter led a wildlife series for a major network.[5] His work for BBC Earth Digital includes Snow Leopards: Ghosts in the Snow, Dan O’Neill Investigates, and After We’ve Gone, and he is a regular contributor to BBC One’s The One Show.[6] In 2020, he released the independent documentary Queen of Birds, chronicling conservation efforts surrounding the critically endangered Philippine eagle, which gained widespread online viewership and contributed to forest protection initiatives.[7] O’Neill was appointed the first Explorer in Residence by the Snow Leopard Trust in 2023, supporting community-based conservation across Central Asia.[8] Alongside broadcast work, he has produced expedition documentaries, digital series and collaborative projects across conservation media, fashion and audio platforms.[9]

O'Neill is gay, and an advocate of LGBTQI+ rights [10]. He was named one of Attitude Magazine's 101 Trailblazers.
