Ing. Dalibor Cicman (born April 15, 1987, in Košice) is an investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of GymBeam,[1] a company specializing in online sales of nutritional supplements, sports nutrition, and fitness accessories. GymBeam is one of the largest e-commerce companies in Europe in the field of healthy lifestyles and is the leader on the Slovak market.[2]
In 2024, the Czech portal Seznam Zprávy estimated the value of GymBeam at 250 to 500 million euros.[3]
Cicman currently owns 83.25% of the company's shares.[4] He regularly appears in Slovak and Czech media, where he comments on topics related to e-commerce, business, and the startup ecosystem. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in digital entrepreneurship in Central Europe.[5]
His business philosophy is a combination of modern technologies, analytical thinking, and a strong customer focus.[6]
Childhood and Education
[edit]Dalibor was born on April 15, 1987, as the firstborn son in an entrepreneurial family. From an early age, he attended a computer club and later a programming[7]club. The knowledge he gained was later applied by programming custom websites. Both of his parents were entrepreneurs, which inspired him to start studying at the University of Economics in Bratislava in 2004, focusing on Business Financial Management. He later began parallel studies at the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, specializing in Applied Informatics. After earning his engineering degree, he continued with doctoral studies on the topic Implementation of Business Intelligence Solutions in eCommerce.[6] During his doctoral studies in 2014, he founded GymBeam in Košice. In 2021, he completed a certified management program at Stanford University titled "Leadership Strategies".[8]
Work and Projects
[edit]Dalibor Cicman started by programming custom websites while still in school.[7] By 2013, he was already running eCommerce projects on 15 domains, which he gradually sold between 2013 and 2015.[6][9] On May 1, 2014, Cicman founded GymBeam and, after a few months, acquired the Slovak supplement brand BodyFit.[10] Following its integration into GymBeam, the company became a pioneer of the D2C (direct-to-consumer) model in the region.[10] In 2015, the company expanded internationally by launching in the Czech and Hungarian markets. That same year, GymBeam won the "Skokan roka" (Rising Star) award at the Mastersgate competition for the fastest-growing e-shop in Slovakia. The Startitup portal named Dalibor Cicman as Personality of the Year in 2018, and he was also included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list that year.[11][12] In June 2018, GymBeam secured the largest investment in Slovak eCommerce history: 6 million euros.[13] In 2020, Cicman was nominated for the Crystal Wing award in the Innovation and Startups category and was a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year[14] competition. By 2021, GymBeam operated in 13 markets, reached 54 million euros in revenue, and employed 280 people.[15][1] In 2022, the company surpassed 100 million euros[16] in annual revenue. In 2023, Dalibor Cicman received the Entrepreneur of the Year in Košice Region[17] and EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 awards. By 2024, GymBeam became the fastest-growing fitness e-shop in Europe with a turnover of 224 million euros.[1][2]The company currently operates in 17 markets, including Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Poland, Germany, Austria, and Italy. In 2025, it plans to focus on the Swiss market.[18]
Personal Life
