Coto Japanese Academy is a private Japanese language school based in Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan[1]. The school was founded in 2000 by Yukiko Watanabe, initially offering private Japanese language lessons provided by volunteer teachers in Iidabashi. The school was incorporated under Be Unique Inc. in 2012 and rebranded as Coto Japanese Academy in 2014.
Coto Japanese Academy currently operates campuses in Iidabashi, Shibuya[2], Azabu-Jūban, and Yokohama. The school offers short-term Japanese language courses, including intensive, part-time, and private lessons. It also provides online Japanese language instruction.

[edit]Coto Japanese Academy is a Japanese language school founded in 2000 by Yukiko Watanabe. Initially offering private lessons taught by volunteer instructors, the school was incorporated under Be Unique Inc. in 2012 and rebranded as Coto Japanese Academy in 2014. The school offers short-term Japanese courses, including intensive, part-time, and private lessons, as well as online instruction.
As of 2025, Coto Japanese Academy operates four campuses. Its first campus, originally located in Iidabashi, was relocated in 2014, coinciding with the name change from Iidabashi Japanese Language School. In 2018, the school established a sister brand, Coto Japanese Club, in Azabu-Juban, Minato-ku, and published the textbook Nihongo Fun & Easy.[3]In March 2019, the company changed its name to Coto World Co., Ltd., and in October 2019, it launched online Japanese lessons. The third in-person campus opened in Yokohama in 2020, followed by a Shibuya location in 2024.
Curriculum
[edit]Coto Japanese Academy focuses on short-term Japanese courses, including intensive courses, part-time courses, and private lessons.[4] The school also offers online courses, which follow the same structured curriculum as the in-person classes.
