Chapter 2 is a French film production company owned by Mediawan that was founded by Dimitri Rassam that produces focuses on adaptating historical events and famous novels into film and television series.[citation needed]
In January 2014, Chapter 2 alongside its founder Dimitri Rassam announced the merger of production company Chapter 2 with Aton Soumache's French animation studio Method Animation along their feature animation subsidiary Onyx Films (including its post-production & CGI feature studio Onyx Lux) to create a leading parent company named ON Entertainment as Chapter 2 became a subsidiary of the new company.[1][2][3]
In December 2017, Mediawan a European-based French special-acquisition company announced they were in exclusive talks to buy a majority stake of Chapter 2 and its parent ON Entertainment for about €50 million.[4][5][6] The acquisition of Chapter 2 alongside its parent ON Entertainment was completed one year later in June 2018, with Mediawan placing Chapter 2 through its film production portfolio.[7]
In 2020, Chapter 2 teamed up with Pathe to co-produce a two-saga of Alexandre Dumas' adventure novel The Three Musketeers which was being directed by Martin Bourboulon, the first part of the saga was D'Artagnan released in April 2023 became Chapter 2's highest-grossing film in France, the second part Milady released in December of that year.[8]
In November 2020, Chapter 2 announced adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo another novel that Alexandre Dumas wrote in partnership with Pathe and Logical Content Ventures; it was released on June 28 2024. It marked Chapter 2's most expensive film and became the French highest-grossing film of 2024 grossed over $75.8 million.[9]
