Changed is a 2018 two-dimensional survival puzzle adventure game created by Chinese furry game developer DragonSnow and published on the Steam Marketplace on 4 April 2018.[1] The game revolves around the player character, known as "Colin", navigating a derelict laboratory complex populated with anthropomorphic "latex" creatures. It is largely responsible for codifying the "transfur" subgenre.
A special edition of the game (sometimes referred to as Changed-Special) is currently under development, while a demo is downloadable for free for those who own the original game.[2]
Story and gameplay
[edit]The game revolves around the player character, Colin. In the beginning of the game, the player awakens from cryostasis in an abandoned research lab owned by the ficticious Thunder Science Corporation. In the first room, the player sees a white blob described as "living milk pudding". After completing a puzzle in the second room, the player encounters the first "latex" creature, known as the "White Knight", who chases the player into the third room, where the player encounters the "Ming Cat", which the player must evade to prevent transformation.
Eventually, after solving a series of puzzles (and evading transformation along the way), the player will encounter the most notable character of the game, a "dark latex" creature known as Puro who serves as the game's deuteragonist. Puro's relationship with the player plays a part in determining which ending the player gets.
Towards the end of the game, it is revealed that the "latex" creatures were created because of a global pandemic caused by the Pale Virus, a highly-transmissible virus that causes sickle-cell disease in its host, leading to a 100% fatality rate; the creatures were an attempt to cure the disease by radically altering the human genome in a way that would make people immune to it.
The base game has five endings, including one where the player is assimilated by Puro, one where the player is experimented on by a different creature, and one where both the player and Puro leave the facility.[1]
Release
[edit]The game was released on Steam on 4 April 2018.[1] Its OST is available as a stand-alone purchase, or as part of a bundle including the game itself.[3][4]
Reception
[edit]As of June 2025, Changed is rated "Very Positive" on Steam and is rated 8/10 in IMDb, with users praising the game's story and puzzle elements, but criticizing the game's difficulty and reliance on fetish elements.[1][5] It has also become the subject of controversy due to issues mainly involving minors.
Controversies
[edit]Child players and disputed age rating
[edit]A presence of children has been observed in the Changed community, which many critics[6][7][8] have cited as alarming, especially considering the game's sexually-suggestive (and sometimes explicit) cutscenes that usually follow a transformation. Some community members also downplay the game's sexuality, with at least one unofficial guide suggesting the game is for those who are at least 14 years old.[9] If viewed from Brazil, the game's age rating on Steam shows up as 12.[1][10]
Clones and inspired games
[edit]As previously mentioned, Changed has effectively codified the "transfur" subgenre, a subset of the transformation fetish genre. As a result, games copying or inspired by Changed began appearing on online video game platforms, most notably Roblox, often with little or no age restriction. One such game on Roblox, known as Kaiju Paradise, has amassed 278.6 million visits and over 643 thousand favorites on the platform as of mid-July 2025.[11][12] Another game on Roblox, named Project Transfur, has amassed over 13 million lifetime visits as of 2025.[13]
Age of the player character
[edit]While DragonSnow has stated that Colin is 23 years old[14] and is forklift-certified (which only adults can be)[15] at the start of the game, many people in its community have given lower numbers for Colin's age, suggesting he is a minor, with some estimates going as low as 15 years old.[16][17][18] The theory of Colin biologically being a minor, if true, would possibly mean the game runs afoul of certain anti-child pornography and anti-obscenity legislation such as the PROTECT Act of 2003 in the US[19], or the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 in the UK.[20]
