Draft:Brian Lander



Brian Lander is an environmental historian of China (ORCID 0000-0002-4229-4655). He is currently Associate Professor of History and Environment and Society at Brown University and a research scholar at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World.[1] He was formerly a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard University Center for the Environment.[2] He is particularly known for his book, The King's Harvest: A Political Ecology of China from the First Farmers to the First Empire, which won the American Historical Association’s Prize for the best book in English in any field of history prior to CE 1000.[3][4]

He has also published on various other topics in Chinese history, such as excavated documents, water control, the histories of various plants and animals, and reconstructing lost ecosystems of ancient China. His work has been funded by the American Council of Learned Societies.[5]
