Early life and education

[edit]

Besse Giersing was born in September 1896 to Anna and Fritz Syberg. In 1916, at the age of 20, Giersing was engaged to Poul Henningsen, who then broke off the engagement as he was in love with his cousin. Following this, Besse Giersing attempted suicide. In 1917, Besse Giersing attended Harald Giersing's painting school, and married him the same year. In 1921, Giersing attended the student school of The Royal Danish Theatre.[2]

Giersing was primarily an actor, rather than a painter. She was an actor at the Aarhus Theatre, playing roles such as Ophelia and Portia.[3][4][5]

[edit]

In June 1944, Giersing committed suicide and was buried in Drigstrup Cemetery. Her funeral was attended by all her siblings.[4]
