Barry Habib (born January 15, 1960) is an American entrepreneur and mortgage industry professional. He is the founder and chief executive officer of MBS Highway, a platform that provides market analysis and tools for mortgage professionals. In June 2025, Habib was appointed to the Board of Directors of Fannie Mae, a government-sponsored enterprise involved in the U.S. housing finance system.[1]

Early life and education

[edit]

Habib was born in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, to Sephardic Jewish parents who emigrated from Turkey. His father worked as an international journalist and died when Habib was 11 years old. He later attended Baruch College in New York City, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.[2]

Career

[edit]

Habib began working in the mortgage industry in 1986. Over more than two decades, he originated over $2 billion in individual mortgage volume.[3] He founded Certified Mortgage Associates in 1989 and operated the firm until it was sold.

In 2001, Habib launched Mortgage Market Guide, a service that provided mortgage professionals with daily insights into market trends. He later sold the company and, in 2012, founded MBS Highway, a subscription-based analytics platform for the mortgage industry.[4] In 2020, he launched the Certified Mortgage Advisor (CMA) course, designed for mortgage professionals seeking advanced training.

In 2022, MBS Highway acquired ListReports, a real estate marketing and data platform. The combined entities—MBS Highway, the CMA program, and ListReports—were consolidated under a new parent brand, Highway, with Habib serving as CEO.[5]

Industry commentary and forecasting

[edit]

Habib has published forecasts on mortgage rates and housing market conditions in trade publications and through industry events, including the Housing Economic Summit. In a 2025 outlook, he projected that mortgage rates would decline to the low 6% range, citing economic and demographic indicators.[6]

Media appearances

[edit]

Habib has provided financial commentary on networks such as CNBC and Fox Business, addressing topics including interest rate trends and housing finance policy.[7] He was profiled by Fox News in 2015 for his forecasting work and entrepreneurial career.

Entertainment work

[edit]

Habib was the lead producer and managing partner of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, which received five Tony Award nominations. He made a cameo appearance in the 2012 film adaptation of the musical.[8]
