The Association for Electronic Music (AFEM) is an international non-profit trade association founded in 2013. It represents organisations and individuals involved in the electronic music sector, including labels, artists, event promoters, and digital services.[1][2] [3]

History

[edit]

AFEM was launched in 2013 following discussions at the International Music Summit in Ibiza in 2012[4] [5]

Membership

[edit]

As of 2025, AFEM reports over 297 member organisations from more than 40 countries.[6] Its membership includes record labels, booking agencies, management firms, festivals, and digital platforms. Notable members include Warner Music Group, Resident Advisor, Defected Records and others.[6] The full list of members is available on the association s official website.[6] [7] In 2021, the French collecting society SACEM joined AFEM, as reported by Music Business Worldwide.[8]

AFEM approved DJ download sites

[edit]

As of 2025, AFEM recognises several online platforms as approved partners for electronic music distribution. These include major digital stores such as Beatport and Traxsource, as well as independent platforms like Volumo, Music Worx, House of Tracks, EDM Ghost Production, and SetFreaks.[9]

Initiatives

[edit]

AFEM coordinates a number of industry initiatives through its working groups. These include the development of principles for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in music, campaigns on diversity and inclusion, metadata standards, health and wellbeing for music professionals, and environmental sustainability projects under its Green Initiatives programme.[10] [11] In 2023, AFEM published industry principles for the ethical use of AI in music, which were covered by EDM.com.[12] It launched a campaign to ensure that electronic music used on social media receives the credit that is due. [13]

Events

[edit]

AFEM organises and supports a variety of industry events, including webinars, panel discussions, and conferences that engage its global membership.[14]
