Aruna Project (often called Aruna) is a nonprofit social enterprise based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that provides employment and aftercare support to women who are survivors of human trafficking. The organization operates both domestically and in South Asia, combining social services such as transitional housing, trauma-informed counseling, and skills training with a business model that produces and sells athleisure products made by the women it employs.[1]

Aruna's model begins with outreach through its community centers to identify and support women in brothel systems, followed by transitional housing and professional skills development. Once training is complete, women are offered employment in Aruna’s social enterprise, where they receive living wages, retirement savings, and ongoing care. The athleisure products they create are sold in the United States, and profits are reinvested into Aruna’s programs to free and employ more women.[2][3]

According to WCPO, Aruna has helped free and employ more than 160 women, with programs that have indirectly supported over 560 family members.[4] The organization also hosts annual fundraising events, such as the Cincinnati Aruna Run, which in 2025 drew more than 1,500 participants.[5] Aruna Project holds a four-star (91%) rating from Charity Navigator, reflecting its financial health and transparency.[6]
