All Sports Television Network is an American sports-oriented broadcast and digital media company. The network focuses on showcasing sports and athletes that are often underserved or overlooked by mainstream sports broadcasters.[1] Its programming portfolio includes original series, syndicated specials, documentaries, and international sporting events.

The company operates through several divisions, including All Sports News, a journalism initiative for students and aspiring reporters,[2] and collaborates with sports organizations to expand the visibility of niche and emerging sports in the United States.

History

All Sports Television Network was founded with the mission of creating a dedicated platform for diverse sporting content, ranging from traditional competitions to new and alternative sports. Its leadership developed a strategy centered on producing original programming and forging broadcast and syndication partnerships both domestically and internationally.[3]

The network has developed relationships with organizations such as Netball America, helping to introduce the sport of netball in the United States through grassroots programs, high-performance pathways, and international competitions such as the U.S. Open Netball Championships®.[4]

  • Racemax – A proposed motorsports-focused television series intended to spotlight a variety of racing disciplines.[8]
  • Food & Beverage Roadshow – A program exploring the intersection of food culture and sports.[9]
  • The Shawshank Hustle – A one-hour sports-adjacent documentary produced for syndication, offered to local stations on a barter basis.[10][11][12]

Partnerships

ASTN has developed partnerships with organizations, sports bodies, and media platforms to broaden its reach and strengthen its programming lineup:

  • Netball America – Collaborated with ASTN to bring greater visibility to netball in the United States through televised tournaments and grassroots initiatives.[13]
  • Local Television Stations – Works with affiliates across the United States through barter-based syndication agreements, where ASTN provides programming in exchange for advertising time.[14]
  • Premiere Talent and Sports Entertainment (PTSE) – ASTN collaborates with PTSE to feature professional athletes and sports talent across its programming, including interviews, special segments, and promotional appearances. This partnership allows ASTN to leverage PTSE’s roster of athletes and sports industry connections to enhance its content offerings.[15]
  • ClickVizion – ASTN works with ClickVizion to deliver advanced streaming analytics, interactive broadcast features, and digital distribution optimization. This partnership enables ASTN to enhance viewer engagement across its linear and streaming platforms.[16]

On February 28, 2023, ASTN President Roger Neal Smith filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register Racemax, a proposed television series. The USPTO examining attorney found no conflicting marks, and the application advanced to publication in the USPTO Gazette.[17]

On November 10, 2023, Home Box Office, Inc. (HBO) filed an opposition, claiming that Racemax would cause confusion with its family of “Max” trademarks, including HBO Max.[18] Smith represented himself in the matter, arguing that HBO had no racing-related trademarks and that Racemax was distinct from HBO’s marks.

On July 8, 2024, HBO withdrew its opposition, and the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board dismissed the case with prejudice, allowing All Sports Television Network to retain its application.[19][20]
