Notability guidelines
[edit]How to assess notability for bagpipe-related articles, especially historical ones? Guidelines for music acts and groups. Notability comes from coverage in media, but there are certain ways a band or player can generate that coverage. If a band or player hasn't competed at a high level or produced some other form of media, coverage is much more likely to be primary - ie generated by them - or only a mention in passing.
Pipe bands
[edit]Ways for a band to assert notability:
- Bands that have spent time in Grade 1 at any point in history - and the coverage associated with competing at this level
- Featuring prominently in major events
Solo players
[edit]Ways for a solo player to become notable.
- Winning a Gold medal - there is only a finite number of these players
- As a touring musician
Composers
[edit]- ??
Makers
[edit]Organisations
[edit]- Schools and associations covered by Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)
Tunes
[edit]- Only a few tunes meet the guidelines. Composers are more likely to be notable than tunes, and any useful information about a tune can also be said about the composer.
