The WeCare Foundation is a Sri Lankan charitable organization founded in 2015 by businessman and philanthropist Aundray Perera, the Chairman of Savi Group.[1] The foundation focuses on improving the quality of life of underprivileged communities in Sri Lanka through educational, health, and social welfare initiatives.

History

[edit]

WeCare Foundation was established with the goal of channeling a portion of the profits from Savi Group’s business ventures into social development projects across Sri Lanka. Since its inception, it has conducted numerous charity drives, medical outreach programs, and infrastructure donations, emphasizing sustainable community empowerment over one-time aid.[2]

Activities

[edit]

The foundation’s initiatives are spread across multiple regions of Sri Lanka and have included:

  • Distribution of school uniforms and educational materials for children in low-income communities.[3]
  • Donation of dry rations and food packs to families affected by poverty and economic hardship.
  • Health and nutrition programs for undernourished children, including free medical clinics and counseling services.
  • Construction and renovation of community infrastructure, including a church in Anuradhapura and school facilities in rural areas.

By 2025, the foundation had organized more than a dozen community outreach events annually, directly assisting thousands of families across Sri Lanka.[4]

Governance

[edit]

WeCare Foundation operates as a privately funded non-profit, primarily supported by Aundray Perera and affiliated companies under the Savi Group. Its activities are coordinated through volunteer networks and regional community partners.

Philosophy

[edit]

According to its founder, the foundation’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that “success has no meaning if it’s only about oneself,” reflecting Perera's long-standing practice of donating 10% of his personal income and corporate profits to social causes.[5]
