Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

What was the purpose of reverting broken link?

[edit]

You've reverted to a broken link because you missed my correction edit after finding the working link that supports the claim being made. SydCarlisle (talk) 19:25, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

An old person's advice

[edit]

I'm an old guy who likes to mentor new people. Please read this essay: WP:STICK. Bearian (talk) 08:57, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the advice but, I was just working through the steps. Noticeboard was the last step. If Wiki refuses to treat one country differently than it's peers, so be it. At least I did what I could.

correction: If Wiki refuses to treat one country the same as it's peers, so be it. SydCarlisle (talk) 09:40, 14 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Surprised no one else has said this, but the main issue was WP:DUE, there are a crazy amount of high quality scholarly sources (WP:BESTSOURCES) characterising the US government, we’d need at least a handful to add something let alone change it Kowal2701 (talk) 10:33, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
