Trump administration considering major command changes
[edit]@SuperWIKI @KingEdinburgh@Neovu79@Garuda28@Morinao
The Trump administration is considering giving up America's role as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. (per https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/trump-admin-considers-giving-nato-command-exclusively-american-eisenho-rcna196503)
Apparently they're also considering merging AFRICOM with EUCOM, and SOUTHCOM with NORTHCOM. (per https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/live-blog/trump-france-emmanuel-macron-white-house-ukraine-tariffs-live-updates-rcna193386/rcrd73653?canonicalCard=true and https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/live-blog/live-updates-trump-cabinet-meeting-elon-musk-doge-rcna193745/rcrd73775?canonicalCard=true).
These would be major seismic changes. Thoughts? EPMen (talk) 22:57, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- More work for me 😭 SuperWIKI (talk) 03:31, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- In all seriousness, the command mergers are so-so for me, but I take issue with the U.S. giving up the position of SACEUR. SuperWIKI (talk) 05:16, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI Well apparently Trump's fellow Republicans are concerned too. https://thehill.com/policy/defense/5204366-gop-chairmen-rogers-wicker-trump-nato-command/ EPMen (talk) 02:18, 20 March 2025 (UTC)

- Well, if they do end up merging AFRICOM with EUCOM, it won't happen for at least two or three years, now that Lt. Gen. Anderson has been nominated to replace Gen Langley. Neovu79 (talk) 00:49, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Given that GEN Cavoli's customary 3-year tour at USEUCOM is set to end this year, this could be a planned matchup between his successor and Lt Gen Anderson to see who's the more worthy 4-star to take over the new command. That is, unless they're planning to bring back a 4-star deputy for the merged USEUCOM-AFRICOM. SuperWIKI (talk) 00:53, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

Many thanks
[edit]Wanted to send many many thanks for your help pulling info from some the committee histories pdfs to fill out their ranking members!! If you're interested, I added bare refs to what I could find on these other remaining committees:
- Senate Agriculture [1]
- Senate Foreign Relations [2] (page 88)
- House Rules [3] (page 249)
- House Energy and Commerce [4] (page 85) and [5] (under the section titled "List of Members, 1921–70")
- House Resources [6] (page 253)
- Senate Energy and Resources [7] (page 283) – I've not yet made tables for the already listed chairs or recent ranking members yet, so this one is last on my list.
Obviously no pressure, but just sharing if you wanted to divide and conquer! Thanks again for your help on Senate Finance and Senate Rules. Therequiembellishere (talk) 16:22, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- No worries! Was going through these documents as I'm building a custom U.S. Senate of my own, with the two most influential senators from each state. It was fortunate that you happened to be adding ranking members at the same time. SuperWIKI (talk) 16:26, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- You can use these as well going forward: Committees in the U.S. Congress, 1947-1992 (Volume 1) and Committees in the U.S. Congress, 1947-1992 (Volume 2). SuperWIKI (talk) 16:31, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Awesome! This is great, thank you! Therequiembellishere (talk) 17:36, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the sources from 1947! Just as an update, I've nearly finished all the extant committees that are in there, I just have HPSCI and the joint Library/Printing, Economic and Taxation committees left. Then I'm hoping to finally add tables for ENR (and the House VA predecessor committee chairs). Out of the pre-1947 sources I found that go back to the establishment of those committees to add their ranking members, I still haven't combed thru House Rules, E&C and Natural Resources--but frankly, I'll probably take a break for those.
