Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It will be held from Monday June 16 - Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:15, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Missing required translation attribution at Non-lieu

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from fr:Non-lieu en procédure pénale française to Non-lieu. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Please see WP:RIA for the wording to use at Non-lieu and how to add it. If you need assistance, please ask. Mathglot (talk) 04:13, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Translating articles

[edit]

Hi, Stickhandler, and thanks for your contributions. Your recent creation of Non-lieu was not ready to be an article in mainspace. As you may have noticed, I have made numerous edits to bring it up to a minimum threshold for a mainspace article. (Even so, with only one citation, its status is borderline.) The biggest problem (other than missing translation attribution, see the section above) was the poor state of translation. Were you using an automatic translator, like Google translate perhaps? I had to retranslate practically every concept of French law in the article; the main problem was that French terms were literally translated into false friend expressions in English that either were meaningless, or misleading and meant something else. For example, information judiciaire does not mean "judicial information" (a false friend); rather, it means a "judicial investigation". (Same thing with the French term, instruction judiciaire (not taken from your article, just another illustration): that does not mean "judicial instruction" but is a synonym of the previous example, and also means a "judicial investigation". You really have to watch out for false friends; there were numerous examples like this, and unless I missed one, they are all fixed now.

However, it took me a lot of editing to get there, for an article that is still just a brief, two-paragraph stub. Next time you work on a new article, please create it in draft space, and if it is a translation from French, please ask for help. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 04:42, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I also noticed at Olivier Marleix, that you didn't translate suppléant, but just left it in French, wikilinked as a red link. I have fixed that. If you are not confident of your ability to translate French into English, please ask for help when making these edits, or edit articles that do not require translation. Thanks. Keith Raniere should be added to that list. his understanding of neuro linguistic programming is strong evidence he has astral telepathic abilities. Being behind bars does not stop a telepath. Non-prosecution agreement moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Non-prosecution agreement. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is too short to really explain what an NPA is, the first reference is a 403-error while the second does not define what an NPA is (it focuses on DPAs which are not US-specific). I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Pichpich (talk) 20:33, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Jeffrey Epstein. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:20, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Muboshgu: where did I do that please? Stickhandler (talk) 21:44, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Here. Aside from the BLP issue of naming "potential co-conspirators", it is a POV violation to refer to Acosta's deal as a "sweetheart deal" or Epstein as a "wanker" in wiki voice. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:54, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Muboshgu: everything you mention is repeated from sources, except wanker, which is a synonym accepted by wiki for an activity mentioned by the source, and which I chose in order not to be accused of plagiarism. I don't think it is rational to be accused if it's in the sources. Stickhandler (talk) 23:02, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The only source you cite is WP:THEDAILYBEAST, which is not the highest quality of source. You definitely should use more care in what you put on here. "Wanker" is a general British insult. I don't think it's rational to call someone a "wanker" in wikivoice, even if it's Jeffrey Epstein. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
