User talk:SiewNg

Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, SiewNg, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Writing about yourself is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians.

As this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. We require individuals to meet Wikipedia's definition of a notable person to accept articles about them. A page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to or change it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! 🇵🇸‍🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦‍🇵🇸 07:51, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: SiewNg/sandbox (June 25)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Dan arndt was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Wikipedia does not support the posting of personal autobiographies - clearly WP:SELFPROMOTION
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your submission at Articles for creation: SiewNg (June 26)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Timtrent was:
This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources.
The comment the reviewer left was:
You have a referencing issue, but not in the way you might expect.

It is WP:CITEKILL. Instead we need one excellent reference per fact asserted. If you are sure it is beneficial, two, and at an absolute maximum, three. Three is not a target, it's a limit. Aim for one. A fact you assert, once verified in a reliable source, is verified. More is gilding the lily. Please choose the very best in each case of multiple referencing for a single point and either drop or repurpose the remainder.

Citekill creates WP:BOMBARD, which gives the impression that you are desperate prove notability. This is not needed. They either pass WP:BIO, or the more targeted WP:NPROF or they do not.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, SiewNg. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. CycloneYoris talk! 10:14, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, SiewNg, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Ema Aktar (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. CycloneYoris talk! 10:15, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from Siew C. Ng for repeat promotional editing.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  asilvering (talk) 02:17, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to edit anywhere else on the encyclopedia, and to propose edits on the talk page of that article with Template:Edit COI. -- asilvering (talk) 02:19, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I acknowledge that my edits to the Siew C. Ng page may have been perceived as promotional due to my COI as a CUHK colleague. I have reviewed Wikipedia's policies on neutral point of view and conflict of interest, and I commit to making only neutral, well-sourced contributions moving forward. I believe the block can be lifted with guidance to ensure compliance. SiewNg (talk) 02:29, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

If you have a conflict of interest, you should not be editing the article directly, but instead be proposing edits on the talk page. I am declining your unblock request. PhilKnight (talk) 03:46, 8 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I understand the block was for suspected promotion on the Siew C. Ng article. I am not using multiple accounts — this was a misunderstanding. My goal was to add sourced career updates in good faith.

I have reviewed WP:COI, WP:SOCK, and WP:BLP. To show good faith, I made **neutral, unrelated edits**:

I commit to:

  • Disclosing any connection to Prof. Ng on talk pages
  • Using **edit request** on the article talk page only
  • **Never** editing the article directly

Thank you for reviewing. SiewNg (talk) 09:32, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You may make edit requests now, nothing is preventing you from this. You are only blocked from the article itself, not its talk page. 331dot (talk) 09:36, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Career update request (2024–2025)

[edit]

Please add the following **sourced** updates to the article:

1. In **Ng Siew Chien** section, after "She has led international studies on IBD epidemiology in the Asia-Pacific region":

→ Add: "she has published over 420 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including Nature, The Lancet and Nature Microbiology.[1][2][3][4]

Thank you. SiewNg (talk) 10:03, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You need to do this on the article talk page, not here. 331dot (talk) 12:29, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. I've already added this on the article talk page. SiewNg (talk) 04:21, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
