Thanks for chatting at Wikimania!

[edit]

Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me at Wikimania in Nairobi! It was great meeting you in person after seeing you onwiki for so long. I heard through the grapevine that you're off on a safari right now, so I hope you're having a wonderful time enjoying Kenya's wildlife :) Hopefully we will meet again at a future event! Best regards from Australia, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs) 09:57, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Ethmostigmus: great meeting you too! Yes, the rest of Kenya was fabulous - some glimpses can be found on my recent commons file uploads. Shyamal (talk) 14:41, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Edit on Cigaritis meghamalaiensis

[edit]

Hello,

On your edit on Cigaritis meghamalaiensis, you mentioned that Cigaritis conjuncta was a synonym of Cigaritis meghamalaiensis. Could you provide sources for this? Mitsingh (talk) 12:57, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mitsingh: The species was supposed to be described by authors of the two sets of papers together but they fell apart in some academic tiff so the first published becomes the valid one. A quick inspection of the butterflies and their descriptions will show that they are the same but if you need a WP:RS - the following quote can be found in Sadasivan, K.; Sengupta, Ashok (2024). "The Butterflies of Western Ghats: Their Status and Distribution". Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. 121 (2): 126–174. doi:10.17087/jbnhs/2024/v121/164523. :
"A new species of Cigaritis was described from the Periyar landscape, Cigaritis meghamalaiensis Sadasivan and Naicker, 2023, and subsequently found to occur in Anamalai and Agasthyamalai landscapes. Another taxon C. conjuncta Kunte and Sengupta, 2024 was described later in 2024 from Coorg with similar external coloration, morphology and male genitalia (Kunte et al. 2024). After a careful comparison of the descriptions and illustrations, it is evident that C. conjuncta must be treated as a junior synonym of C. meghamalaiensis, owing to the priority in the date of publication as per Article 23 of International Code of Zoological Nomenclature"
(Happy to send you a copy of the paper if you cannot find it) Shyamal (talk) 13:36, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Walter Grimwood Doggett. When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. In the future, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find these errors as they will display in yellow at the top of the page. Thanks. @Zackmann08: "will display in yellow at the top of the page" - definitely does not show up or work for me ... perhaps a bug somewhere. Or do you use some specific script? Shyamal (talk) 08:13, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
