Translation?

[edit]

Hi Rachel,

this all started out as me noticing when Googling (in English) that Tom Kitwood only had a German language Wikipedia page come up in the search results, I rather naively thought to myself 'well that's odd, I should do something about that, Wikipedia is an open platform afterall.' I then tried to click on the handy 'translate this article' button and it said I don't actually have access to that feature that's sitting so tantalizing in front of me, but I 'could create a new article in English.'

That seemed like way more work than I had time for so I asked ChatGPT to translate it... which, as you might guess, didn't work very well. Then I asked ChatGPT to create a much shorter article and leave out the links so I could go back and add them manually, which I did, pooly at first, then slightly better... anyway this goes on for a while, being rejected for this or that reason. I then thought to myself 'surely there's an online community' so I tried to use the help / IRC chat community and got absolute crickets. I then got to a version that seemed like it might be fine, reduced to the bare bones, and you reject it because it's not clear to you why Tom Kitwood is noteworthy, which I grant I haven't done a great job at.

Here's my request to you. Could you please save me a lot of time and aggravation and use your power to use the automated handy translate function built in Wikipedia to translate the German language version to the English version?

Pretty please,
