Promotional material from the Australia Institute

[edit]

Hi there, please do not add big slabs of text that just seek to promote the work of the Australia institute. It's fine to include their positions, but it needs to be written in a much less promotional and more balanced tone. GraziePrego (talk) 04:15, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the advise - will amend and update accordingly. Pritikakumar (talk) 23:47, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Pritikakumar. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MCE89 (talk) 03:15, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I’ve gone through your contributions and it looks like every single one of your 51 edits has been to add reports by the Australia Institute to articles. Do you have an affiliation with that organisation? MCE89 (talk) 03:43, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there - Thanks for feedback and information on conflict of interest. Yes, I am employed with the organisation and I am looking into the links shared above to make appropriate disclosure. Apologies. Pritikakumar (talk) 05:15, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for adding that disclosure! Please do bear a few additional things in mind as you continue editing:
  • As a paid editor, you are very strongly discouraged from making edits involving the Australia Institute directly. If you think that a page could benefit from citing your organisation’s research, you could consider making a COI edit request on the article’s talk page for another editor to review, or you could leave a note on the talk page for other editors suggesting that the Australia Institute’s research might be a useful source for expanding the article
  • The reports produced by the Australia Institute are protected by copyright and their text cannot be copied onto Wikipedia. Adding copyrighted text onto Wikipedia is a violation of the site’s copyright policies. This edit that you made today was still very closely paraphrased from your organisation's report
  • Wikipedia requires that articles maintain a neutral point of view. It’s important that articles avoid advocating for a particular point of view, so adding text like Its recommended to pus towards policies that reduce plastic production and consumption, such as implementing a plastics tax and extended producer responsibility schemes, to effectively address the growing plastic waste crisis is not appropriate for Wikipedia
Let me know if any of that is unclear. MCE89 (talk) 09:10, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thnaks for the clarifications. Appreciate it. itsPri (talk) 23:23, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. It doesn’t seem that you have taken this advice. You have made another edit involving your organisation directly on Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme. Your edits also still include advocacy that does not comply with Wikipedia’s neutral point of view. For instance, Strengthening the PALM scheme could support long-term partnerships, but requires mutual respect and fair treatment for all workers is clearly not a neutral and encyclopedic addition. Please stop making edits involving the Australia Institute directly to articles and instead use edit requests so that independent editors can review your proposed edits. Please also have a read of WP:REFSPAM, which explains that persistently adding citations and mentions of an organisation with which you have a COI can be viewed as a form of promotional editing, which is prohibited on Wikipedia. Thank you. MCE89 (talk) 01:53, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
