[edit]Thank you today for Happy Feet (penguin), "about an emperor penguin who arrived at a beach in New Zealand and became a bit of a media sensation. After filling his stomach with sand, he was kept at a zoo to recover, and was released 10 weeks later in the Southern Ocean with a GPS tracker. However, it fell silent and it is not known if he was still alive."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:19, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]New Zealand topics
Thank you for quality articles around New Zealand such as Happy Feet (penguin), Inky (octopus), Thomas (goose) and Edmonds' Clock Tower, for gracefully taking the FAC "roller coaster" but also doing gnomish project work, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!
You are recipient no. 2975 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:52, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks again! ^_^ ―Panamitsu (talk) 08:09, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

- Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, if you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:59, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the music Gerda, I've just had a listen to the one on the top of your talk page. It's nice to see you sharing music throughout Wikipedia as you've managed to get me to listen to music that I normally wouldn't. My favourite songs are Zadok the Priest, Waltz of the Flowers and Waltz No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:54, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Today is Bastille Day, commemorated by a DYK as my "story" and a visit to the Bastille Opera in "music". I like the interview coming with the story, on the day before the big event, but for pomp and circumstance, the affair with 600 singing children and orchestra, and the singer dressed in the national flag, was also captured on videos, much slower. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:02, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Three Ukrainian topics were on the main page today, at least at the beginning, RD and DYK, - see my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:18, 20 July 2025 (UTC)

- Three of "my" recent deaths bios are on the main page right now, one my story today, Gary Karr, and I loved to find his breakthrough concert in 1962 as a video. In my music today I match it with 9 other double bassists, 7 conducted by a person who's birthday is today - coincidence ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:20, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Wow that's really impressive ―Panamitsu (talk) 21:46, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Four yesterday. - Béatrice Uria-Monzon and her story, Julia Hagen and her no story --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:56, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- On Bach's day of death, I decorated my user pages in memory, with his music, and my story ends on "peace". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:01, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- Wow what a coincidence. I happened to buy the book Gödel, Escher, Bach yesterday. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:18, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

Please stop and go back and fix the spacing
[edit]Your current edit run of adding language tags has also included adding spaces to the top of each page you are editing, resulting in irregular formatting. The tops of the pages are now submerged one or two spaces. You are obviously using some kind of tool, so maybe stop now and fix the spacing on the articles you have done this to, thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 10:33, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Please be aware that this may possibly be considered a misuse of tools if not fixed. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 10:37, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ooohhh I had noticed the new lines but didn't realise that it was me adding them. That is terrible. Thank you so much for letting me know that it was me doing that. I updated AutoWikiBrowser today and it turns out that there's some new line setting, which is enabled by default for some weird reason. I have now just disabled it. ―Panamitsu (talk) 10:37, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. So this coding is present in the tool itself now? Not sure if you say you fixed the tool or just your use of it (i.e. will this occur when others use the tool?). I don't use tools myself unless Hotcat is considered a tool, so am not aware of the coding, etc. Randy Kryn (talk) 10:41, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- There's no coding involved. There's now an option that says "Use <number> newlines" which was set to 1 for some reason. I've changed it to 0 and have confirmed that it doesn't create any new lines.
- But for fixing the blank lines I've already inserted, I'm at a loss of what to do. I'll stop for the night and think of something in the morning. ―Panamitsu (talk) 10:45, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry I misinterpreted your question. Yes everyone has that option now. ―Panamitsu (talk) 10:49, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- When you start a new run with AWB, it’s a good idea to open the first page after an edit in the source code editor to see whether it does everything as expected. Schwede66 18:55, 19 July 2025 (UTC)

- Yikes, hopefully nobody else will do this (maybe you can leave a note or edit the coding at the tool page). As for fixing the mistake on your edits: manual editing. That would be clicking on "edit" of each article and removing the spacing mistakes by hand on the pages you've added this to, the most obvious solution. It may take awhile as you seem to be using extremely fast editing tools, but I guess that's the price of quick edits? I've seen fast editors zoom up the list of "most edits" with tool use, and many get in trouble at some point (will ping Dicklyon here, an experienced fast tool user at some points, who may have a solution to the coding problem being discussed in this section), thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 10:55, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggstion. I'm wondering if AWB's general fixes will fix the issue. I'll have a try in the morning and if that doesn't work I'll figure out something else. Maybe Dicklyon has a better idea. If nothing works I'll just get everything reverted and do them again which I'm sure wouldn't make people too happy, flooding their watchlists again. Thanks for the image, it was quite funny. ―Panamitsu (talk) 11:04, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, and good meeting you if this is the first time. I pinged Dicklyon only because he ran into some trouble with using tools too fast once or twice (or hundredths), but yes, he is a good source for ideas. Flooding watchlists isn't a crime just a by-product of being a Wikipedian, so never should be a problem there. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:17, 19 July 2025 (UTC)

I don't see an easy fix, but I'd first complain (and ask) at the AWB page. This change to the tool is likely being very disruptive. Dicklyon (talk) 15:05, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hopefully the mistake has been fixed at AWB (an area of Wikipedia I'm not familiar with). Panamitsu, thanks for going ahead with the fixes, and hopefully you discover some interesting facts in articles along the way. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:57, 20 July 2025 (UTC)

- Frankly adding American English tags to all American articles is a waste of your time, and that of those whose watchlists are flooded, especially if you are making mistakes. I'd find something more useful to do. Johnbod (talk) 02:16, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- If you did it it might be a waste of time because you wouldn't enjoy it. But I enjoy it, so it's not a waste of time for me. ―Panamitsu (talk) 02:20, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Could you please upload it as a PNG? Should be preferable... 2804:388:4104:7712:F453:78A4:FA09:A436 (talk) 05:48, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

Waitakere City
[edit]Waitakere is a tiny village, no one refers to it as a city nor would they type/click a link to 'Waitakere City' expecting an article on the settlement. Traumnovelle (talk) 05:27, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ok. ―Panamitsu (talk) 05:34, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I haven't really thought much about these distinguish templates before and can't think of any counter points so, while I still think it should be there, you can re-remove it unless someone has something to say about it. ―Panamitsu (talk) 05:37, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I believe that unnecessary hatnotes can distract a reader and just result in them going to another article. Whilst the village could be mistaken for the city (as Waitakere, New Zealand could refer to the city) 'Waitakere City' can only refer to one thing. Traumnovelle (talk) 05:49, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

AWB use
[edit]Your addition of {{Use American English}} has now been questioned in multiple venues, both at Talk:Sacred Heart Church (Pomeroy, Ohio) and here on your talk page. This discussion can at the most be considered a silent consensus, which has now been objected to. Please do not keep adding these templates until you have a firm consensus or otherwise get approval to do so. Primefac (talk) 20:58, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank I'll stay away from it for a while. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:36, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
- Primefac, where do you think I should find consensus for this? The last time I tried on the AWB talk page it got no responses, so I wonder if there's a better place to discuss it? ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:35, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
- There aren't really any related WikiProjects, so you'd probably have to go to a more central noticeboard such as WP:VPM or WT:AWB, maybe WT:MOS but I don't know if this is really a Manual of Style issue. I will note that the original AWB discussion wasn't really framed as a "I would like consensus to do this" request, but more of a general query, which might explain why you didn't get much feedback. Primefac (talk) 16:03, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks Primefac, I'll have another go in the weekend. ―Panamitsu (talk) 22:23, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

Justice Precinct article
[edit]Hey! I started working on an article for the Justice and Emergency Services Precinct this week. I noticed today that you've just created a redirect for it, but you didn't do this for the other precinct articles on the Chch earthquake template. I wanted to see if there was a reason, i.e., if you're writing your own article or if the redirect was needed for another purpose? ProtoKiwi (talk) 03:21, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Nice work! I actually created that redirect because I'm playing around with creating Draft:Cathedral Square police kiosk and that precinct appeared in it so I wanted to create a link to it. I didn't bother with the other precincts because they aren't in that draft article. I'm not planning on creating an article for the justice precinct, so we aren't duplicating effort, although I have been considering for a while creating an article for the Innovation Precinct. ―Panamitsu (talk) 03:48, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- ProtoKiwi, I couldn't see where you are drafting the article. Or are you working on it offline? If it's somewhere within the Wikipedia environment and the redirect is in the way of a move, let me know and I'll make it go away. Schwede66 04:26, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's offline at the moment but I'll probably put something up by tonight. I'm assuming I can just replace the redirect source with the article source? Will it still show up as a new article for review? ProtoKiwi (talk) 04:38, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know, but if you want, you could put it into draft space and I'll swap the redirect and new article for you. ―Panamitsu (talk) 04:54, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- I've just gone ahead and replaced the redirect so this doesn't get too complicated. ProtoKiwi (talk) 06:35, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- By the way ProtoKiwi, are you planning on creating an article for the now-demolished Regent Theatre? That's what I'm planning on doing next, unless you're going to. ―Panamitsu (talk) 08:00, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Go right ahead! I have no plans for any other articles at the moment. ProtoKiwi (talk) 08:12, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Hello there, thanks for the article. I've written a related article in the German WP about the "mourning border": [1]. This concept is very common in German, while English dictionaries don't have the word (it's mostly "black borders"). My article is not only about stationery but also about borders on handkerchiefs and newspaper pages. Maybe there is some helpful information for your article, too. Do you think the two articles should be linked via Wikidata? Best, ChickSR (talk) 12:45, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, great work. There's a lot of information in the article you've created, much more than in the article I created two years ago. I do reckon that a lot of it could be copied over to the English article, although I don't think it will be me as I can't speak German (I tried to learn it in 2017 but it was too hard) and I'm not as interested in this topic as I used to be. I do think that they should be connected on Wikidata as the articles are about the same thing, even if they differ a little in scope. Thanks again ―Panamitsu (talk) 21:54, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
DYK for 1953–1954 royal tour of New Zealand
[edit]On 18 August 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1953–1954 royal tour of New Zealand, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that an estimated three-quarters of New Zealand's population saw Elizabeth II during her 1953–1954 tour of the country? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1953–1954 royal tour of New Zealand. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 1953–1954 royal tour of New Zealand), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Pronunciation of Ardern
[edit]I was notified that you reverted my edit of the phonemic transcription and pronunciation respelling of Jacinda Ardern's surname. In your explanation you said that Ardern "is not pronounced that way" but that is only true of people who have non-rhotic dialects of English such as in New Zealand. The rest of the English-speaking world pronounces it as /ˈɑːrdərn/ AR-dərn. S. Neuman (talk) 18:47, 23 August 2025 (UTC)
- @S. Neuman: As far as I'm aware, Ardern does not pronounce her own name like that. If she doesn't pronounce her name like that, then wouldn't the rhotic pronunciation be wrong? Why should we tell readers to pronounce someone's name wrong to fit their accent? There's a word for that; I think it's called "colonialism".
- But on a more serious note, take a look at the Angela Merkel article for example. In English, the name Angela is pronounced with a soft G (see Wikt:Angela) but hers is pronounced with a hard G, and the IPA and audio file uses the hard G ―Panamitsu (talk) 21:47, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

Linda Buis page changes
[edit]Hi, I'm not sure this is something that your edit did or not but I see all the references on this page (Linda Buis) that you edited have vanished and been replaced with red type. I am fairly new to Wiki and have no idea what to do about this. Can you help, I would really appreciate it. Cheers, Manymanydogs (talk) 21:09, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- Well that was strange. It seems to be fixed now though. I think it was something in the cite web template (nothing done by you or me) that was broken and then it was quickly fixed by someone, I don't know. ―Panamitsu (talk) 21:16, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
