Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Blocked as a sockpuppet

[edit]
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively as a sockpuppet of User:HistoryofKashmir per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HistoryofKashmir. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

I would like to clarify that editing articles related to Kashmir or Pahari people does not automatically make me a sockpuppet. Having an interest in a certain topic area cannot itself be taken as evidence of socking. If there are genuine concerns, a proper CheckUser (IP check) can be requested to verify, instead of assumptions based on WP:DUCK. Also, I am not Pahari, I am from Potohar. Therefore, I request that no unfair assumptions be made about me solely based on the topics I edit. NewHistory101 (talk) 12:44, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
I would like to say that I am not a sock account. I am would like for admins or CheckUsers to run an IP check and if there are any other ways I can provide proof that I am not an alternate account, I am happy to cooperate.
Regarding the Pahari- Potohari article and the edits I made I only recently joined Wikipedia and my intention has been to improve the content with reliable sources. On the matter of the Pahari-Pothwari language, I never claimed it is not Punjabi, nor did I claim it is a separate language. My edits were simply to show the fact that there is no consensus among linguists or among Pahari-Pothwari speakers themselves on whether it is a dialect of Punjabi or a separate language. This is supported by multiple linguistic references that label it as Indo-Aryan without classifying it one way or the other.
I request that my ban be reviewed
Thank you

No need to ping me. And no need for a Checkuser, either. A checkuser has already taken a look and determined you are highly likely to be a sockpuppet. So it has already happened. --Yamla (talk) 15:17, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

Decline reason:

A WP:CHECKUSER already looked at your case and found sockpuppetry to be  Highly likely, in addition to the behavioural considerations. Yamla (talk) 13:10, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
