Thank you for coming to my talk! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:45, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
I uploaded vacation pics (from back home), at least the first day, - and remember Aribert Reimann. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:01, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: - "inspired by Claude Debussy's compositions for clarinet" - other than orchestral use, isn't there only the Première rhapsodie? Narky Blert (talk) 20:38, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know. Grimes2 wrote that, and we just lost him, it seems. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Some days later, a calf in the mist and chocolate cake, and a story of collaboration --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:42, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed), and I also made it my story. - How do you like the statue (see places)? I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:14, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
The statue is of Hildegard of Bingen, and as it happens, her Physica is on the Main page today, and Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:48, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:44, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi there. I see you were the last to edit here, so maybe you can help, because disambiguation pages make me dizzy.
The article Oak Grove, Louisiana is the only "Oak Grove" in the state with a Wikipedia article. However, the meat of the article is located at Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana.
There was also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oak Grove, Louisiana.
(As an aside, Oak Grove, Louisiana was created by a notorious sock I've been hunting for years)
I think the entire article should be moved back to "Oak Grove, Louisiana".
What do you think? Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 11:09, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- I see you changed the DAB page, but this is still the only "Oak Grove" in Louisiana. The parish name is unnecessary, no? Magnolia677 (talk) 11:00, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Thanks for dropping by. I have a health issue which wrecks my ability to concentrate. The wholly-unlinked entry on the DAB page needs to go. As for your main point, I agree with you - the WP:PTOPIC for Oak Grove, Louisiana is Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. I suggest a WP:RM#Uncontroversial technical requests. Link this discussion. I have the technical permissions to make the necessary moves but lack the stamina. Best, Narky Blert (talk) 14:16, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- I am so sorry to hear that. I noticed that you had been less active than when we collaborated so successfully but I had hoped it was by choice. I hope that ill health is not affecting your offline life too badly and I wish you all the best. Certes (talk) 15:54, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- TY for your kind words. Narky Blert (talk) 20:00, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your advice with this. I hope your health issues improve soon and you're back to 100 percent. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 09:54, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

You're the first to receive this, for starting WikiProject Bluelink patrol, you deserve it. Jerium (talk) 21:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC) |
I also have a request. I usually make a criteria for every new barnstar made, but I can't comprehend the ideal-purpose of the WikiProject to come up with one. Can you develop a criteria to be assign for this barnstar? Thank you. Jerium (talk) 21:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Jerium: Thank you! This is a rare honour.
- A health scare are the end of 2021 pretty much wrecked my ability to concentrate, and I have been almost inactive on WP since then. Others who deserve this award include (but are not limited to) my colleagues Certes and GoingBatty, without whom I wouldn't have thought of setting up WP:BPAT.
- Inclusion criterion? I suggest nomination by active members. Us WP:WIKIGNOMES don't seek recognition, and can be rather embarrassed by it. Narky Blert (talk) 21:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm glad you like the gesture. I know there are others who deserve this also, but you know more of them than me. Perhaps you can express such appreciation to them. Anyways, thanks for your past and future efforts, happy editing & cheers! Jerium (talk) 22:27, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Happy new year 2025, opened with trumpet fanfares that first sounded OTD in 1725 (as the Main page had). My story today is about a composer who influenced music history also by writing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- Happy New Tear to you also! My Xmas present to a couple of guys who run a very good popular music reaction channel and who introduce me to lots of things I didn't know was the opening chorus of a work first performed in 1734 and not again until 1857. There's an excellent performance on YT by Voces8. I also gave it to a friend who has a pop and popular classical background, who has a very good ear indeed - he wasn't phased by Webern's Op 28 string quartet. I also gave him "Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen", and when I told him that we'd both sung the tune in the minor (we both have CofE upbringing) he got it at once. Narky Blert (talk) 14:14, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- 1734 sounds like BWV 248 but that's not exactly what I'd expect from Voces8, - I used them for my story on Christmas Eve, - did you see? Today a violinist from Turkey, Ayla Erduran, whom you can watch playing Schubert chamber music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- 1734 was also the year of "Jauchzet, frohlokket!"
- My father and I didn't agree on everything, but one thing we always agreed on was Schubert. The variation movement from The Trout was played at his funeral. We used to chuckle about that - trout only like clear water, and if you muddy the water you won't see the fish again that day. Narky Blert (talk) 23:58, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- I was lazy and wrote BWV 248 instead of Jauchzet, frohlocket and three other parts first performed in 1734 (the other two in 1735), and three of those in 1734 with an Eingangschor. I didn't know until we sang it last year that the closing chorale of the Ascension Oratorio is even more stunning than "Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen", with independent expressive vocal lines like in "O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde groß" (which was originally composed for the St John Passion). The trout quintet was the third piece of which my mother bought a record, and then my brother became a double bassist ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:52, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Today, pictured on the Main page, Tosca, in memory of her first appearance on stage OTD in 1900, and of principal author Brian Boulton. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:32, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Today, between many who just died, Tobias Kratzer on his 45th birthday who was good for an unusual DYK mentioning a Verdi opera in 2018, - you can see his work in the trailer of another one that I saw, and my talk page has a third (but by a different director). 2025 pics, finally. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:16, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:Reketvlotbrug.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Reketvlotbrug.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:58, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

It was unlikely to have survived much longer even without the disappearance of the tyreyarn market - during the 1980s, four of our five remaining UK viscose plants were closed. reasons to look at Bach (and listen): it's a recent GA (not by me), he assumed the position of Thomaskantor OTD in 1723, he's up for PR, and several of his cantatas for GA, and his Easter Oratorio for FAC --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:24, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: As an aside, Radio 3 presenter Donald Macleod once described the Bach family (so many of whom were called Johann) as "baptismally challenged". Narky Blert (talk) 17:11, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

Stravinsky pictured on his birthday + Vienna pics - but too many who died -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 17 June 2025 (UTC)
While you are of course invited to check out my recommendations any day, today offers unusually a great writer of novels, music with light and a place with exquisite food. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 28 June 2025 (UTC)

[edit] Hello! I'm TonySt. I just wanted to let you know that in your recent edit at WP:ANI, you appeared to have added incorrect information -- specifically when you wrote
the moon is made of green cheese
. In fact, it's well known that the moon is actually made of blue cheese (see WP:BLUE). Thank you! ;) —tony 18:49, 29 June 2025 (UTC)

Check out my talk, - if you have little time, listen to Gilda Cruz-Romo in the final scene of Aida, if you have more read her article, and if you have still more check out my music, some sung with me in choir, some played by friends, all heard with friends. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:18, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt: A master conductor bends an orchestra to his will https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5PR-sLcXFo
- I don't remember if I've told you this story before. A Dutch online friend, no longer with us, was good enough to have played principal horn in Bergman's 1975 film of Die Zauberflöte (the only piece by Mozart he liked). One day in the Netherlands, a visiting conductor arrived from England. (He refused to say who it was, but I suspect it was Malcolm Sargent.) Ascending the podium, he handed his top hat, his white gloves, his cane, and his cloak lined with red silk to a lackey. The principal bassoon muttered, "My God, it's Dracula".
- Only sheer professionalism got the orchestra through the next two hours. Narky Blert (talk) 19:00, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Today's story - short version: ten years ago we had a DYK about a soprano who sang in concerts with me in the choir, - longer: I found today a youtube of an aria she sang with us then, recorded the same year, - if you still have time: our performances were the weekend before the Iraq war ultimatum, and we sang Dona nobis pacem (and the drummer drummed!) as if they could hear us in Washington. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:48, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I too take pride in having written articles which attract one view per day. Do you know Priaulx Rainier's Cycle for Declamation? It must take nerves of steel to sing.
- I've been pondering on how to include "Und was behan dex Soldaten Weib?" in enwp. The Dutch article is very feeble, and the sources to support an artivle just aren't there. I may be able to add a sentence or two to Schweik in the Second World War. There are several recordings in German, including one by Lotte Lenya (YouTube link), and two significant ones in English, as "The Ballad of the Soldier's Wife", by popular musicians: Marianne Faithfull (for me, the best interpreter of Weill since Lenya) and PJ Harvey. Narky Blert (talk) 08:19, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- Can't believe that Und was bekam des Soldaten Weib has no article in German. Busy today (a recent deaths bio on her last day, and the Bach cantata on the Main page better than yesterday morning, but not ready for GA as it should be. I raised the count for the singer to 29 yesterday ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:35, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: I've been working (slowly) on Soldaten Weib in my sandbox. I think I'm going to have enough for an enwiki article - not least because the Weill setting is a year earlier than the Eisler one, and the cities and gifts are slightly different. I'll keep you informed.
- During my researches, I came across Sari Gruber, who might be of interest to you. I haven't done a proper search, but there's a good-looking biography on the Bach Cantatas Website. There are some clips on YouTube of her as Despina in Cosí. Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 10:54, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you. My days are busy, will look, perhaps next week. Just a little warning that Bach Cantatas is frowned upon by some. Perhaps you can find were the site got the info from. It's usually listed, and as usually not working anymore ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Check out my talk for an Independence day, or: the pic of Oksana Lyniv was taken on 24 August. There's listening and reading in today's story, and I like both. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:01, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt: Thank you as always.
- My draft article was coming along nicely, and I was getting ready to post - when I did one more search and found JSTOR 30043820 - 25 pages by de:Nils Grosch. That puts to rest any remaining doubt about notability, and I need to study it.
- Eisler set the "gift" verses in the major, and the "veil" verse in the minor. Weill did the opposite; a striking effect. Narky Blert (talk) 07:56, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! Happy studying! - On top of my talk: birthday of a great violinist and Requiem for a great friend. We sang Paradisi gloria from the Stabat Mater in the end. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:16, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

My story today is about a composer and his ballerina wife, pictured as I saw them in 2009. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:03, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm very close to publication. Grosch's article is excellent. In the meantime, as a curiosity, this is what I believe to be the very first setting of "Und was bekam...", by Mischa Spoliansky, sung by Lucie Mannheim (complete with throat-clearing). (The YouTube title is wrong - "Lied vom Weib..." came later; in it, some of the cities are different.)
- Paul Dessau set the poem, but I can't find his version. I'd never heard of him before, but from what I've listened to, his Lieder should be better known. Narky Blert (talk) 16:28, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

- My story today is about the principal violin of the Concentus Musicus; she would have been 95 OTD. I felt connected when the second oboist of our recent concert, of Haydn's Stabat Mater, said that he built an English horn for his performance of the work with the Concentus Musicus. - Concert weekend pictured in "places". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:19, 26 September 2025 (UTC)

My story today is about a mezzo as a thinking person, DYK? (The nomination wasn't by me, which probably helped to a short review.) - Look at the video if you have a few minutes. I never saw her on stage, but (in 2022) the last Carmen production at the Bastille Opéra that she was in, - see music. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:31, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- In return, I offer an article which I started some years ago, which putters along at one view.day: Zorian Quartet. They gave several notable premieres; Bartok wasn't exactly mainstream repertoire in the 1940s. I also started the biographics of two of its founding members; IIRC, I couldn't find enough about the other two. My link is the only reroding of Benjamim Britten playing his viola. (Their recording of Britten's 2nd quartet occupied an odd number of 78rpm sides, and they needed a filler.) Narky Blert (talk) 06:16, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- That's great! No, I didn't know! - Happy 50th birthday, Alain Altinoglu!) - I let the video begin with a closeup of the octobass ;) Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:58, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
