Oak Grove, Louisiana

Hi there. I see you were the last to edit here, so maybe you can help, because disambiguation pages make me dizzy.

The article Oak Grove, Louisiana is the only "Oak Grove" in the state with a Wikipedia article. However, the meat of the article is located at Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana.

There was also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oak Grove, Louisiana.

(As an aside, Oak Grove, Louisiana was created by a notorious sock I've been hunting for years)

I think the entire article should be moved back to "Oak Grove, Louisiana".

@Magnolia677: Thanks for dropping by. I have a health issue which wrecks my ability to concentrate. The wholly-unlinked entry on the DAB page needs to go. As for your main point, I agree with you - the WP:PTOPIC for Oak Grove, Louisiana is Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. I suggest a WP:RM#Uncontroversial technical requests. @Jerium: Thank you! This is a rare honour.
A health scare are the end of 2021 pretty much wrecked my ability to concentrate, and I have been almost inactive on WP since then. Others who deserve this award include (but are not limited to) my colleagues Certes and GoingBatty, without whom I wouldn't have thought of setting up WP:BPAT.

Happy New Tear to you also! My Xmas present to a couple of guys who run a very good popular music reaction channel and who introduce me to lots of things I didn't know was the opening chorus of a work first performed in 1734 and not again until 1857. There's an excellent performance on YT by Voces8. I also gave it to a friend who has a pop and popular classical background, who has a very good ear indeed - he wasn't phased by Webern's Op 28 string quartet. I also gave him "Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen", and when I told him that we'd both sung the tune in the minor (we both have CofE upbringing) he got it at once. 1734 sounds like BWV 248 but that's not exactly what I'd expect from Voces8, - I used them for my story on Christmas Eve, - did you see? Today a violinist from Turkey, Ayla Erduran, whom you can watch playing Schubert chamber music. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My father and I didn't agree on everything, but one thing we always agreed on was Schubert. The variation movement from The Trout was played at his funeral. I was lazy and wrote BWV 248 instead of Jauchzet, frohlocket and three other parts first performed in 1734 (the other two in 1735), and three of those in 1734 with an Eingangschor. I didn't know until we sang it last year that the closing chorale of the Ascension Oratorio is even more stunning than "Nun seid ihr wohl gerochen", with independent expressive vocal lines like in "O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde groß" (which was originally composed for the St John Passion). The trout quintet was the third piece of which my mother bought a record, and then my brother became a double bassist ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:52, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@GRALISTAIR: I was a frequent visitor there (from DF&VL in Coventry) 1976-79, working mainly at the viscose dope end of the textile yarn side; including on the SAICCOR circuit, if you remember that. I was in and out of hospital in summer 1979, and missed the closure; which I was very sorry to learn of, because there were some excellent people there. It was unlikely to have survived much longer even without the disappearance of the tyreyarn market - during the 1980s, four of our five remaining UK viscose plants were closed. I don't remember if I've told you this story before. A Dutch online friend, no longer with us, was good enough to have played principal horn in Bergman's 1975 film of Die Zauberflöte (the only piece by Mozart he liked). One day in the Netherlands, a visiting conductor arrived from England. (He refused to say who it was, but I suspect it was Malcolm Sargent.) Ascending the podium, he handed his top hat, his white gloves, his cane, and his cloak lined with red silk to a lackey. The principal bassoon muttered, "My God, it's Dracula".

@Gerda Arendt: I too take pride in having written articles which attract one view per day. Do you know Priaulx Rainier's Cycle for Declamation? It must take nerves of steel to sing.
I've been pondering on how to include "Und was behan dex Soldaten Weib?" in enwp. The Dutch article is very feeble, and the sources to support an artivle just aren't there. I may be able to add a sentence or two to Schweik in the Second World War. There are several recordings in German, including one by Lotte Lenya (YouTube link), and two significant ones in English, as "The Ballad of the Soldier's Wife", by popular musicians: Marianne Faithfull (for me, the best interpreter of Weill since Lenya) and PJ Harvey. @Gerda Arendt: I've been working (slowly) on Soldaten Weib in my sandbox. I think I'm going to have enough for an enwiki article - not least because the Weill setting is a year earlier than the Eisler one, and the cities and gifts are slightly different. I'll keep you informed.

I'm very close to publication. Grosch's article is excellent. In the meantime, as a curiosity, this is what I believe to be the very first setting of "Und was bekam...", by Mischa Spoliansky, sung by Lucie Mannheim (complete with throat-clearing). (The YouTube title is wrong - "Lied vom Weib..." came later; in it, some of the cities are different.)
