Denmark Christmas Candle

[edit]

I was browsing the Candle article and noticed the Candle picture you put up. I was wondering if you would be interested in possibly expanding the tradition behind this and adding it to the Candle article if you wish, or just simply write it to me :) If you choose to append it to the current article I might suggest a "Holiday" or "Tradition" heading.

Thanks :)

I'm afraid that I'm no expert on history so I don't really know anything about the tradition behind those candles --- I just know that we use them every year in Denmark :-) Martin Geisler

Hi 331dot, thanks for writing. I guess you're talking about Draft:Comprehensive Rust, which I created today? I'm happy to elaborate on this:
  • I created the project in 2022 while working in the Android team. I left Google in July (last month) and now work for Proton AG. Creating an article is my own idea, not paid for by anyone.
  • Since I'm the original creator of the Rust course (and current maintainer), I wanted to avoid a biased article. So I asked Gemini two things: 1) is the topic noteworthy? and 2) can you write a NPOV article about it?
Gemini found some third-party resources covering the course, two of which I had already collected on the README. If they are enough, I cannot tell :)
I have of course read through the draft from Gemini to ensure it got things right. From my point of view, it did a good job and it explicitly avoided adding claims made in primary sources (like my Rust Conf talk). I hope the community will edit the article further to sand off any rough edges. MrtnGslr (talk) 11:47, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 331dot,
Thank you for the follow-up — I read your messages below and want to address all the points clearly in one place.
  • Conflict of Interest: I absolutely have a COI as the course's original author, and I've now formally declared it on the draft's talk page using the {{connected contributor}} template. To be precise about my status: I created the course while at Google, but I left the company last month and am now at Proton. This article is a personal project, and I am not being compensated for it.
  • LLM Use: I completely agree about the need for disclosure. As you can see in the initial edit for the draft, I declared the use of Gemini to be transparent. My goal was to use it as a tool to help ensure a neutral, encyclopedic tone, but I take full responsibility for all content.
My intention has always been to submit this through the formal Articles for Creation process for an independent review. I will now proceed with that.
Thank you again for the guidance.
Best regards, Martin MrtnGslr (talk) 21:21, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello MrtnGslr. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MrtnGslr. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MrtnGslr|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 08:53, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits suggest that you work for Google/Alphabet. Please clarify. 331dot (talk) 08:54, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Happy to clarify: I worked for Google until July 2025 and I now work for Proton AG. MrtnGslr (talk) 21:29, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Comprehensive Rust (September 1)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Pythoncoder was:
Your draft shows signs of having been generated by a large language model, such as ChatGPT. Their outputs usually have multiple issues that prevent them from meeting our guidelines on writing articles. These include:
Please address these issues. The best way is usually to read reliable sources and summarize them, instead of using a large language model. See our help page on large language models.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.
