Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days in order to make edits related to two subtopics: (1) Indian military history, or (2) social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. asilvering (talk) 19:01, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

[edit]

Your recent unexplained edits of Brahui people required some cleanup, as you removed half a citation and added incorrect capitals in a header. I've patched things up, but please always use the edit summary and Preview, and make sure you are familiar with the Manual of Style. I'll attach some links below. Thank you, Jessicapierce (talk) 17:17, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Brahui people, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Jessicapierce (talk) 17:17, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to Brahui people, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history, as well as helping prevent edit conflicts. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it.

The Show preview button is right next to the Publish changes button and below the edit summary field.

It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Jessicapierce (talk) 17:17, 4 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Brahuistan deletion discussion

[edit]

Hello Moshtank. I see that you have pinged me to that discussion, for reasons that are unclear to me. I would like to offer some advice: please take a break from commenting in the discussion; you have made 18 edits already and added a great deal of text. That should be sufficient for other editors to understand your point of view. It is important to avoid bludgeoning a discussion. Secondly, please be aware of the canvassing guideline: sending mass notifications (such as pings) and inviting like-minded individuals to participate in deletion discussions (such as inviting a teacher to join the discussion) are not appropriate. I understand that you have strong views about the existence of this article, but please slow down and let the process run its course. 28bytes (talk) 13:43, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @28bytes,
Thank you for your message and for taking the time to offer guidance. I sincerely appreciate your concern and understand the importance of maintaining a respectful and balanced discussion.
I would like to acknowledge your point about excessive commenting and tagging. You are absolutely right, and I apologize if my actions came across as disruptive. My intention was not to overwhelm the discussion, but rather to express the seriousness of the issue and to seek clarity from experienced editors and administrators.
The topic at hand is deeply sensitive for many of us, especially those from the Brahui-speaking community. The article in question appears to promote a politically charged and divisive narrative without credible sources. This raises a broader concern: whether Wikipedia should host content that lacks verifiable evidence and may be perceived as propaganda.
To better understand the community's stance, I tagged a few administrators in hopes of receiving clarification on this matter. I now realize that I may have overstepped, and I will refrain from further tagging.
Thank you again for your thoughtful message. I remain committed to engaging constructively and respectfully.
Warm regards,
-- Moshtank (talk) 14:26, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Moshtank, it appears you're using LLM/chatbots to respond, and at English Wikipedia, we value words we hear from people, not robotic, vague text generated by a set of text prediction algorithms. Even a poorly written paragraph in English stated in an editor's own words is infinitely more valuable than something generated by AI.
Also, it's important you again review the contentious topic warnings above that you were given last month. You are not an editor who has extended-confirmed user rights, which means because of the sensitive history of this topic on Wikipedia, you may not make any edit related to social groups of South Asia, broadly construed. This would apply to the vast majority of edits you've made in recent weeks in regard to the Brahui people and Balochistan. Until you have achieved 500 edits (you already have the 30 days), you should edit other topics that do not have this restriction. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 18:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @CoffeeCrumbs,
With respect, I find it troubling that instead of engaging with the core issue—the reliability and appropriateness of the article—you are focusing on my use of language tools, despite my limited English proficiency. I am acting within Wikipedia’s guidelines, which do not prohibit the use of LLMs when used responsibly.
Rather than reviewing sources and contributing to the substance of the discussion, it seems you are attempting to challenge my participation on procedural grounds. This, along with similar behavior from a few others, feels like an effort to sideline the real concern, which is deeply troubling to me.
My previous deletion nomination failed largely due to the difficulty I had expressing myself clearly in English. This time, I have tried to communicate more effectively, and I have nominated the article for deletion as someone from the community directly affected by its content. I understand the sensitivities involved, and I believe I have a right to raise these concerns.
Do you believe that people from the affected communities should not participate in such discussions? I hope that is not the implication.
Respectfully,
-- Moshtank (talk) 05:03, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Let's not cast aspersions. LLMs are very awkward to interact with; they say a lot of things that don't go along with Wikipedia policies. And yes, I believe you are entirely using LLMs. I just asked one chatbot to "respond to me" and I got a very similar block of text.
The biggest deal is that part you don't addess, that edits you've been making to a topic that requires extended-confirmed rights. CoffeeCrumbs (talk) 09:31, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And no, the previous deletion request didn't fail because you spoke poor English. The previous deletion request failed because you made poor, non-policy arguments. You simply cast WP:ASPERSIONS at others and asserted that Brahui people had a special right to edit articles related to the Brahui people that "outsiders" did not. Inquiries about Balochi Academy Sarbaz | سوالات مربوط به آکادمی بلوچی سرباز

[edit]

Hello, I believe you have connections to the Balochi Academy in Sarbaz, which standardized the Balochi alphabet (Balòrabi). I am a Canadian university student who helped make the Wikipedia article for the standard alphabet 2 years ago, and have been following ever since. I have a few inquiries about the alphabet as I eventually plan on making biology books in Balochi using the script, and so I ma wondering if you can get me in touch with the Balochi Academy in Sarbaz. Thank you very much for your time.
