Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- Please refrain from violating the ECR restriction. As a non WP:XC, you're only allowed to make edit requests, provided they are not disruptive. M.Bitton (talk) 23:14, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- Since you no have no intention of respecting the rules, I will notify Rosguill (the admin who left the above notice) as well as ScottishFinnishRadish (the admin who protected the article). Maybe you'll listen to them. M.Bitton (talk) 23:22, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- I am not sure what you are referring to, can you be more specific? I have made requests on the "Zionism" page regarding the definition of the term, as well as some of the historical background. I did not alter the article. Milliot68 (talk) 23:35, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- M.Bitton is correct that until you reach WP:XC status, you are expected to limit your participation on the talk page to properly formatted, uncontroversial edit requests, as described at WP:XY. In this context, "uncontroversial" effectively means "obviously appropriate edits in the eyes of any reasonable editor, and not requiring a discussion to hash out specifics", i.e. stuff like fixing grammatical errors, updating outdated statistics using references already cited in the article, etc. Arguments predicated on asserting that the article as written includes propaganda, as in the diff linked by M.Bitton above, are definitely not uncontroversial and thus not welcome from non-XC editors (it's worth noting that even if you were an XC editor, you would be expected to substantiate an argument like the one in the diff with actual evidence to support your claims: bald assertions of POV/bias/etc without identifying which specific claims in the article are problematic nor identifying reliable sources that back up your characterizations are essentially a non-starter. We're very work-focused and concrete here on Wikipedia) signed, Rosguill talk 13:34, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

- Doubling down on the ECR violation is not going to help. M.Bitton (talk) 23:33, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- No one is doubling down here. I did not change the article. I made requests in the talk section to modify the definition of "Zionism". Milliot68 (talk) 23:36, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- What part of "as a non WP:XC, you're only allowed to make edit requests, provided they are not disruptive" don't you understand? M.Bitton (talk) 23:37, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- If that wasn't clear enough, the note at the top of the article's talk page says: "You must be logged-in and extended-confirmed to edit or discuss this topic on any page (except for making edit requests, provided they are not disruptive)". M.Bitton (talk) 23:39, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- BTW, I don't see any of your "Editor:" credentials on your page. What are you making a fuss about? Milliot68 (talk) 23:39, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- You can find editors' permissions status at Special:UserRights, in this case Special:UserRights/M.Bitton. As far as enforcing WP:PIA is concerned, all the important information can also be inferred from a user's Special:Contributions page (also easily pulled up by clicking on the "contribs" link in a page history): the two main checks are "more than 500 edits" and "more than 30 days since account creation". Occasionally an editor will have WP:XC revoked despite meeting those criteria (typically due to WP:GAMEing), but that's rather rare. signed, Rosguill talk 13:38, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- Reply to Rosguill: thank you for your clarification. Milliot68 (talk) 17:21, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of August Rau
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on August Rau requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.thestrad.com/lutherie/august-rau-the-old-fashioned-way/14734.article. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion of your article
[edit]
A page you created has been nominated for deletion as an attack page, according to section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Please do not create pages that attack, threaten, or disparage their subject. Attack pages and files are not tolerated by Wikipedia and are speedily deleted. Users who create or add such material may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Thank you.

- I tried to address the issues on the "Zionist" page, but was not welcomed to do that.
- What do you suggest I do, to offer a better consensus on the definition and history of Zionism? Milliot68 (talk) 01:20, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Please use Talk:Zionism to discuss the page on Zionism rather than creating your own article. 45dogs (they/them) (talk) 01:04, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

- I would recommend putting your concerns in the talk page for Zionism, provided you can do so while remaining civil. If you can't, it would likely be best to just drop it and move on to other parts of Wikipedia. 45dogs (they/them) (talk) 01:25, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

- The talk page for Zionism currently states "This page is currently protected so that only extended confirmed users and administrators can edit it." I have written many articles on Wikipedia, how can I access the page for my input on the matter? Milliot68 (talk) 01:30, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't notice that. Have you tried following the edit request process? 45dogs (they/them) (talk) 01:33, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
