File permission problem with File:Elizabeth Sims writing 2013 photo by Tom Bender.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading File:Elizabeth Sims writing 2013 photo by Tom Bender.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 07:58, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
Managing a conflict of interest
[edit] Hello, MMburrows. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Elizabeth Sims, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 19:20, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for your message on my Talk page. The list of articles is too detailed for the Elizabeth Sims article. See WP:NOTRESUME and WP:NOTDIR. Looking at the edits you have made and your username, I think you are connected to Sims - can you confirm whether this is the case, please? Tacyarg (talk) 04:53, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi thank you for your prompt response and information. I'm always learning.
- First regarding the COI. I am Elizabeth Sims' wife, Marcia Burrows. Several years ago a wonderful Wikipedia editor, Cindamuse (Cindy Ashley-Nelson) was very helpful about proper formatting and citing on this page. Then she died.
- Since then, I've followed her methods.
- I didn't know about the COI concerns. Now that I do, I'll disclose COI whenever I edit.
- Next, about the list of articles. I carefully read WP:NOTRESUME and WP:NOTDIR and don't see support for
- your statement that the list is "too long". I see that lists of creative works are permitted.
- The list of articles is encyclopedic and is not advertising, publicizing or promotion.
- It's a list of articles by Elizabeth Sims who is a notable expert on writing and therefore can be useful to
- people looking for topics.
- From my reading about lists, I believe this list belongs on the parent page "Elizabeth Sims" rather than a stand-alone list.
- I plan to restore it there.
- Regarding the book descriptions what sort of sources would be acceptable? These books have all been reviewed in major news organs over the years except for "Down to the D" which is new this year. Please let me know how to source the book descriptions.
- Finally, you, probably inadvertently, created some blank lines in the description of "The Extra". I'll remove them when I restore the list of articles.
- I very much appreciate your help and guidance.
- Thanks again,
- Marcia MMburrows (talk) 20:35, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I'll ask over at the Tearoom to be directed to the policy about the list of articles, as I haven't got a note of the link. As you have a conflict of interest, please do not edit the article directly, but request changes on the article's Talk page. You can do this using the edit request wizard. Please provide sources. The guidance on reliable sources is linked in the Wekcome at the top of this Talk page, under Policies and guidance. Tacyarg (talk) 22:39, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- It has been a few days and it seems you haven't found the rule limiting the list of author works that provided your reason for removing the list of Elizabeth's articles.
- I could restore that list by hand, but it would be better if you did because of my COI.
- Thanks for your attention to this.

- Hi - this is the Teahouse discussion, but I was referring to the list of articles, rather than contributions to books. I still think the list of articles fails WP:NOTDIR, but you are welcome to request on the Talk page that they are added back - I linked the edit request wizard above. You'll then get other editors who may not have seen the article before who can bring their own interpretations of guidance. I have taken off the unsourced book description, which was not neutral in tone, but again you are welcome to make a request that it's added back, if you provide a reference. You asked above about guidance on sourcing; hopefully the links in the Welcome helped with this, but you might also find the WP:TEAHOUSE helpful. Tacyarg (talk) 21:05, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I've been ill and finally getting around to this. I see why you removed the book descriptions. I understand and thanks for your help with this. I have read the Teahouse discussion. Every article in the article list is Elizabeth's work and lists of author's works are allowed. And, yes, a wonderful Wikipedia editor, Cindamuse (Cindy Ashley-Nelson) RIP set this list format up for the page originally. MMburrows (talk) 18:55, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
