Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Hi Rambley: I wrote to you several days ago about the submission of a new version of the current Wikipedia article on Joseph Smith Fletcher. How might I proceed? With all thanks LRP46 LRP46 (talk) 20:21, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As I replied to you on my talk page,
You can click the "Edit Source" button at the top of the page to make edits.
Your response here indicates you'd like to submit a new version of the entire page rather than small edits; I'd suggest seeking consensus on the talk page of the article, so other editors can chime in. Rambley (talk) 21:00, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rambley: Thank you for the help. I have replaced the original version of the article with the new version in the "Edit" feature but the only available choice seems to be "Publish". I am not sure how to proceed. Also, I am not sure what to do with the new references.
The major differences between the original and new versions is mention of JSF's first wife and their children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren (of whom I am one - I am aware of the Wikipedia rule related to connections and close connections but JSF died long before I was born), and the very recent awarding to JSF of a "Blue Plaque".
My apologies if this seems a bit disorganized and my thanks for any help you can provide. LRP46 (talk) 21:33, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to reiterate again that discussing these changes on the talk page would be ideal, especially in a situation where you have a conflict of interest, even if minor. I am also unsure what I am not sure what to do with the new references means.
Hitting "Publish changes" will publish the page immediately, so please be cautious if you're unsure about making edits. Rambley (talk) 21:38, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rambley:
I am very happy to discuss these changes on the talk page but it is not clear to me how to do that.
Re the references, I am not sure if the format I have used is correct.
Thank you for your help in getting a lame dog over a stile. LRP46 LRP46 (talk) 21:57, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You can click the "Talk" button on any article under the title to get to the talk page, or click this hyperlink instead. Then just click "Add topic" at the top and write a message. Rambley (talk) 22:00, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
