[edit]

Be careful when changing damage estimates. I believe you entered the one billion dollars in damage from Hurricane John due to the source's title, but the estimated billion was in pesos, not USD. I rolled back the edits. JayTee⛈️ 04:11, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The report states that all economic losses are provided in USD millions on page 36. However, I'm not too sure though. Jpuxfrd (talk) 17:03, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah my bad, I didn't see the report you added during your first edit and thought you added the $1 billion estimate w/o a source. Added your source to the John article. JayTee⛈️ 21:22, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2023 AHS

[edit]

Hey there, regarding this edit, I disagree and suggest you revert. First off, "preliminary losses" are not useful when it's a long time after the fact. Also, because you're dealing with Guadeloupe, any damage total other than Euro or French franc should be ignored. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:47, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The fire was on Antigua, not Guadeloupe (so the estimate is probably in Eastern Caribbean Dollars). Although preliminary estimates are not useful after a long time, if they are the only estimates available, should they still be used? (The source date was from October 2023) Jpuxfrd (talk) 01:24, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Preliminary reads as incomplete, so they're not ideal from a longterm point of view. And that's why I don't think they should be included in the damage total either. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:40, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

2024 AHS

Regarding this edit, what do you mean "per Rafael's article". Was that information cited in the sources in the season article? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:10, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Jpuxfrd (talk) 21:55, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just added the source under the main article for clarification Jpuxfrd (talk) 00:36, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Editor's Barnstar
Thanks for updating the damage totals for the recent storms in the South-West Indian Ocean. Sorry if our previous interactions haven't been the best, I saw that I called you out for some edits in the past. But I'm glad that didn't dissuade you from editing. It takes a lot of effort to make sure Wikipedia stays accurate and up to date, so cheers to you, Jpuxfrd, for making that happen! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:19, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Jpuxfrd (talk) 18:41, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding both Kiko 07 and the recent Juliette to the California hurricanes list. One small thing. When you're linking to the storm events, it's good to link directly to the report, [Storm Events Database - like this. I'm only pointing it out because you seem to be the sort of editor who's going to stick around and maybe edit these kind of lists in the future ;) Cheers and keep up the good work! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:24, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice! Jpuxfrd (talk) 00:38, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The comment the reviewer left was:
The damage from this hurricane and the cost of the damage does not appear to be enough to warrant a stand-alone article.

Ivo

[edit]

Do you think Ivo is notable enough for its own article? Thinking about making one HurricaneZeta (talk) 16:59, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure if Ivo deserves an article or not. The damage so far doesn't seem to be enough to warrant and article and the only place that Ivo seems to have impacted significantly would be Sinaloa. That being said, if you can find more information and impacts in places Ivo directly affected, I'd say go for it. JpuxfrdAlt (talk) 23:03, 15 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:SANDWICH

[edit]

Please make sure you understand this guideline grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 17:19, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I see your point about MOS:SANDWICH, however, most tropical storm/hurricane articles have the track line that appears to be in the met history section. To compromise, I added a clear template after the lead. I hope this is okay. Jpuxfrd (talk) 17:25, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, it looks like most articles might be violating that policy. The easiest solution would be to ignore all rules, but seeing that almost every tropical cyclone article violates said rule, that might not be the best idea. A better solution that accommodates the MOS might be to incorporate the track map into the infobox. I'll propose that on the project talk page. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:24, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I can see justification for inclusion in infobox; it'd be similar role to mapframes in like place infoboxes. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 18:42, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See the project discussion here, sounds like thousands of articles are about to get changed because of this very discussion. Not that I'm complaining, I think the change is an improvement! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:47, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, do you think the list should be split between Baja California and Baja California Sur? Most of them will be in the latter, but there were a small few that hit Baja California classic. Seeing that almost every coastal U.S. state has its own list, I figured Mexico and even Canada could have the same. There's surely enough info. That would make it easier later on to justify having just List of Sonora hurricanes, and not lumping them both together, even though there was historically the state of Sonora and Sinaloa! ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:00, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That would probably be necessary. Baja California classic hurricanes tend to be somewhat rare and might be more of note. Additionally, many hurricanes have hit Mexico and I don't see why we couldn't have separate articles for each state. Jpuxfrd (talk) 22:40, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. Hurricane Nora (1997) was the last hurricane to hit Baja California classic, and possibly the only. Also, having hurricane lists for two Mexican states might inspire people to make more state lists. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:11, 21 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
