Note
[edit]You put an non-factual information in the Wiki article about an Olympics boxing final match result (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lin_Yu-ting&oldid=1239672702), prior to the fight and the official result of the match, which took place couple of hours after your edit. - The edit in question was in fact made only 37 minutes ago. Flounder fillet (talk) 20:27, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I added the result shortly after it occurred, admittedly without a source. Jontel (talk) 20:49, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Please help me find a mentor
[edit]I would like to understand where I went wrong and got tbanned in the I/P space. Could you suggest a strategy to search for a mentor who is impartial and can help me improve?[1] Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 00:02, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- Can I ask why you chose me to approach with this question? Thank you.Jontel (talk) 03:13, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- Lacking any guidance after my ban, I messaged Jimmy Wales. He's a familiar name :). Then I pretty randomly went from my watchlist and other editors' contribs and your talk page seemed like you've been through some things and have stayed civil. I spent a total of maybe one minute choosing you, so apologies if my process made no sense and I've wasted your time. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 10:02, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- Not at all. I am happy to offer any help I can. Regarding overturning a tban, I did not try to overturn mine, so cannot help there. Regarding understanding why you were tbanned, that would need me to review your activity and responses to them, which I do not have time for. However, regarding my principal learnings from my tban, these are: 1. There are individuals, organisations, media and editors which will systematically misrepresent matters, which I am sure you know, and thee reinforce each other; 2. Editing boldly, frequently and rapidly and, even more, responding to other editors rapidly often makes things worse; 3. Some editors will use unexpected tactics against one and not act according to the spirit of the rules; 4. Involving the many collaborative, dispute, appeal and mediation processes is risky - there is always the possibility that an administrator or other editors will side with your opponent for various reasons, including that they have a personal view on the topic or do not like time-consuming fights; 5. Editing the lead is particularly risky because some media publicise it permanently so it is high profile; 6. Some editors use Wikipedia to make a public point and will defend that; 7. Where you can, use the talk page to introduce possibly contentious changes before you make them to see if there is an objection and to show that you are consultative; 8. Quote WP and MOS policies where you can; 9. Learn all of the rules; 10. Rather than getting upset, leave the issue for a few days and then come back to it. 11. Always provide detailed and convincing edit summaries.
I am conscious that none of this answers your specific question, which is how to find a mentor. Again, I have not done this myself. Here are two tips from Google AI.
1. Using the Growth Team Mentorship Tools Sign up as a mentor or request one: Visit Wikipedia:Growth Team features to learn more. Get matched: Newcomers can be matched with mentors who are ready to help. Use the dashboard: Once matched, you can interact with your mentor through the Special:MentorDashboard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Growth_Team_features
2. Adopt-a-user program: For longer-term support from an experienced editor, consider joining the Adopt-a-user program by using the adoptme template on your user page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user
I hope this helps. By all means, ask me anything. Jontel (talk) 10:36, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- I really appreciate your excellent response. Thank you. Allthemilescombined1 (talk) 21:36, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
