[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Cabayi (talk) 09:13, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked account

Request reason:

I am trying to update the company information with an up to date and accurate description of the organisation. Whilst I am employed by the company I do not intend to promote any specific products or services.

Decline reason:

Appeal does not sufficiently address the block reasons (see below comments for details). DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:26, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • That username was recently created. Was that you? PhilKnight (talk) 18:11, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes TheAccessGroup (talk) 08:12, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to create a new account thinking the username was the issue. I'm a novice when it comes to Wikipedia so I didn't realise it would cause issues. TheAccessGroup (talk) 08:13, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, your username was an issue, but it wasn't the only one.
When your account gets blocked, the only thing you may do is to appeal that block to try and get it lifted. If you instead go and register a new account to get around the block, that is considered sockpuppetry, and only serves to dig you into a deeper hole.
We cannot (AFAIK) now rename this account as Hobbs82, since you have already registered that name.
There exists an account with a similar name, JoHobbs82, which has previously edited the article in question, The Access Group. Is that account also yours?
Aside from the username issue, you have an obvious conflict of interest, as a paid editor, which must be disclosed (see WP:PAID). You are also not allowed to edit The Access Group article directly, other than in very specific and limited circumstances, but must instead make edit requests via the article talk page or WP:ERW.
All these issues would need to be addressed before you can be unblocked. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:25, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, yes I did have another account but couldn't remember the details, so started again. So I need to appeal the block and complete the disclosure document - is that right? We also cannot edit the content to give an accurate description of the organisation and its history? I only wanted to add in details of all past acquisitions and big announcements. I apologise, I didn't realise it was so complex. Thanks again TheAccessGroup (talk) 12:40, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is a bit of an odd situation.
Hobbs82 hasn't yet edited on the English Wikipedia (or for that matter, on any project). If and when it does, it becomes blockable as a sockpuppet account. You probably want to avoid that, as I cannot see it helping things, quite the opposite.
TheAccessGroup cannot be unblocked to continue editing under that name, as it violates our username policy, and can no longer be renamed to Hobbs82 as that is already taken.
It seems to me that you would need to successfully appeal this block, but not in order to edit with this account, but rather to edit with the Hobbs82 account instead.
Hobbs82 would need to make, pretty much as its first edit on the English Wikipedia, a paid-editing disclosure, and to undertake to abide by our paid-editing rules. But as I said, don't do that just yet, lest it makes matters worse.
I'm pinging @PhilKnight who is much more experienced in all this and may be able to think of a better way forward? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:54, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, no bright ideas. We don't seem to be at the unblocking stage just yet. It might be easier to change the username to something else, and abandon Hobbs82 and JoHobbs82. PhilKnight (talk) 13:08, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Okay, thanks Phil.
@TheAccessGroup: what do you know about the new account AK8201? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:11, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is a colleague of mine who needed to make an urgent update to the article. She created an account to carry this out whilst my account is under investigation. What should I do now? I am happy to adandon the other usernames and create a new one if that's the easiest option. Please advise TheAccessGroup (talk) 13:25, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh for... it's like playing Whac-a-Mole, we try to deal with one issue, and another one pops up elsewhere.
Your colleague is arguably what we call a meatpuppet, and in any case is an undisclosed paid editor. She also should not be editing the article directly, on account of her COI (fortunately that was quite a straightforward edit, so we can probably let it stand).
The only thing I can advise is that you file a new unblock request, with reference to all that has been discussed here, and another administrator will come and review your appeal at some point. In the meantime, please tell your colleagues not to edit the article without making the required WP:PAID disclosure and adhering to the paid-editing-rules. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:40, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thanks TheAccessGroup (talk) 13:43, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

Please read my talk discussion. I am a novice to Wikipedia and made a stupid mistake in creating multiple accounts in order to edit and article about the company I am employed by - The Access Group. I did not read the username policy and neither did I appreciate that I needed to disclose this prior to making edits. I work in the brand team for Access and purely wanted to make edits for accuracy purposes and not for commercial use. I am happy to abandon the other two accounts created (Hobbs82 and JoHobbs82) and start again. I have learned my lesson and will ensure I dont cut corners in future and follow the guidance provided. Thank you

Accept reason:

As you have disclosed your status(which I'd suggest transferring to your user page, User:JH8209) and agreed to use the edit request process, I will remove the block. Courtesy ping to Cabayi. 331dot (talk) 08:31, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
