Question from ChandimaWiki (10:05, 9 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi Iffy,

Thank you for offering help.

I have collated information for a wikipedia article, but have issues in finding the draft that I was working on. Would you be able to shed some light on this?

Thanking you, Chandi --ChandimaWiki (talk) 10:05, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! You can find your previous edits on the contributions page, this can be found by clicking the user menu on the top right and pressing "Contributions". I only see one edit from you at Special:Contributions/ChandimaWiki, your edit asking this question, so I do not know what draft you are referring to. You could start again from scratch, or you could try using Wikipedia's built in search engine to try and locate the page, Help:Searching details how the searching on Wikipedia works. Question from Slippery slope302 (09:23, 17 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello.

I need assistance regarding citations. I created an article and added citations but the issue is that the citations could not be automatically generated so, they're bare URLs. Is there a way to change the format of the citations?

I would appreciated your assistance. --Slippery slope302 (talk) 09:23, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Yes, there are ways to update the citations from bare URLs to more useful citations; two tools that can help with this are Wikipedia:reFill and Wikipedia:CITATIONBOT. You could also try updating the citations manually, more information on citing sources can be found at Wikipedia:Citing sources. IffyChat -- 09:33, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

hello I simply, for now, just want to colorize and enhance pictures already on Wikipedia and put them back onto the same page. I need to find out how to do that in the most efficient and correct manner. Thank you for any suggestions you can pass along :-) --Carld45 (talk) 16:30, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Before you consider making any edits to a picture, you should check that the image is freely licensed (and therefore you have permission to make an edited version). Then, you can download the highest resolution version of the image. Your edited version should be uploaded as a separate file to the same project the original was uploaded to (Most images used on Wikipedia are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons) and with a license compatible with the original version's license. There's a lot of steps to go through if you want to get this done correctly; there's more information here at Wikipedia:Uploading images, and also at Wikimedia Commons. Question from Gastrocnemian (11:38, 24 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi! I've never really edited Wikipedia beyond a few spelling etc. corrections, so I could use some advise on how to proceed with the Finnish version of the Topical steroid withdrawal article, fi:Paikallissteroidiaddiktio.

The problem with that article is that it's got multiple extremely dubious sources and is clearly written from a non-neutral point of view, to the point that I'm unsure which parts are even actually trustworthy and whether the seemingly good sources actually support the claims made. Even the name of the article, which translates to "topical steroid addiction", seems a bit off and I can't find too many non-crank sources using that term. One medical source I did find used it in quotes, implying it's not an actual commonly used medical term in Finnish.

The sources include things like:

Any advise for next steps would be greatly appreciated. --Gastrocnemian (talk) 11:38, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I do not speak Finnish, so I cannot help with issues that may exist on the Finnish Wikipedia. If you cannot resolve the issues yourself, you should try discussing the isues you have with the article somewhere on the Finnish Wikipedia. IffyChat -- 12:31, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Anxioustoavoid (talk) 21:38, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can go to the individual AfD category pages and add the discussion manually, I have just done that for the tennis list at Special:Diff/1301247000 (I have this list watchlisted), the same thing can be done for the other lists. IffyChat -- 21:44, 18 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ElenaHorikawa (13:37, 20 July 2025)

[edit]

I added sources to an entry about a 2007 Japanese movie called Dear Friends. I would appreciate it if you could review my work and let me know whether I made any mistakes in the way I cite sources. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dear_Friends_(2007_film) How should I add items in the "External Link" section? --ElenaHorikawa (talk) 13:37, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Ive had a quick look at your edits and don't see any major mistakes in how you have used your references, the one thing I would note is that websites that rely on user generated content like IMDb are not considered to be reliable sources and shouldn't be used as references. As for adding new external links, you can use the same format as is already used for the official website, e.g. in wikitext: * [https://jfdb.jp/en/title/775# Dear Friends at Japanese Film Database] IffyChat -- 15:01, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the helpful feedback. I have improved the formatting in the external link based you your suggestion, and I will try to find alternatives for the references to IMDb. It seems the movie was not reviewed in any of Japan's major newspapers and its official website has been taken down, so it was harder than I thought to find good references for this wiki entry. But I will try to find some better sources! ElenaHorikawa (talk) 06:53, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I found an article in the Asahi Shinbun, a major Japanese newspaper, which mentions the movie, its release in February 2007, and has an interview with one of the lead actresses. I added it using the template "news". The article, which is in Japanese, is only accessible via a database giving access to Asahi Shinbun articles, so I cannot add a link. I added the reference but there seems to be some error, as the following code is visible: {{cite news}}: |access-date= requires |url= (help)
I was wondering how I could solve that. Other than the fact that I cannot provide a url, I also have problems editing existing sources. How could I get the dialogue box back open? So far, I have always just recreated the entire reference from scratch. ElenaHorikawa (talk) 03:10, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a reference that doesn't have a URL associated with it, then omit the access-date parameter altogether. That will fix the issue you are currently having. More help on referencing can be found at Wikipedia:Citing sources and Help:Referencing for beginners. IffyChat -- 04:57, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Iffy! I need a question is: How i can make a random text into many colours? I need this for a lot of wikis about Japanese television(i'm expand it) i need your answer♡ --Natsuko2007bornerf (talk) 13:32, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! To edit the colour of text, you can either use the code <span style="color:#COLOR">text</span>, replacing #COLOR with whatever colour you want the text to be, or you can use the {{Font color}} template. More information about how this works can be found at Help:Using colours. IffyChat -- 14:12, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Barkers18 (19:52, 27 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello,

How do I post pages or rather wiki pages for individuals on Wikipedia? --Barkers18 (talk) 19:52, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! To create new pages about individuals, it is recommended to read Help:Your first article, and then to to use the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process, so that other users can review your work. The Wikipedia:Article wizard can help you with this. If you intend to write about someone still living, everything you write about them anywhere on Wikipedia must comply with the Wikipedia:Biographies of Living Persons policy. Help me!!!an user name Fred has deleted all my works and i'm very upset about this, this is all my works, and he deleted all! Can you talk to him please? --Natsuko2007bornerf (talk) 14:45, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The best way to resolve disputes between users is to discuss the changes civilly on a talk page, ideally the talk page of the article in question. Take things one step at a time, and don't attack other users for disagreeing with you. IffyChat -- 15:41, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
