đşđŚ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me đşđŚ 18:22, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the ArabâIsraeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipediaâs norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Locarno Pages
[edit]Hi HussainHx, It's great to meet you! I'm SquawkGuard and I am so glad you are jumping into editing the Locarno pages!
As a lot of users are jumping in to edit Locarno pages here's some tips:
- "More links needed" applies to things like directors and titles. Dates do not need to be wikilinked. Neither do countries generally.
- If the English title exists on English Wikipedia it should be wikilinked, not the original title.
- Finally, original titles and directors (apart from spelling errors) should be correct and come from Locarno itself. There are exceptions, but be careful as some films that screened at Locarno are lost film and do not have a IMDB.
(you can look at Example pages like 77th Locarno Film Festival or the 2018 Cannes Film Festival pages to compare)
Thank you for getting into the Locarno Pages! If you've got any questions on the pages or wiki stuff I'd love to be of help. You can reply here using {{Re|SquawkGuard}}
or add a message to my talk page here.
Again Thanks! It's great to see these pages get better!
Happy Editing! â SquawkGuard (talk) 00:22, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your helpful note regarding what is needed on these pages, @SquawkGuard! HussainHx (talk) 21:32, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Of Course! Happy to see people on these pages! Oh, also be careful with Find and Replace. Wikipedia will sometimes change inside words or for example it will change a films original title like "Italia Vancanza" to "Italy Vancanza".
- Great to meet you again! â SquawkGuard (talk) 23:17, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, that must have been my mistake. Thank you for catching that and for letting me know. HussainHx (talk) 23:27, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

MCE89 (talk) 12:05, 10 June 2025 (UTC)- Congrats! On your first film page! Hope it's the first of many! If you saw some of the edits I made on the 11th Venice Festival page. I personally believe you are totally right this screened there, but you got to have a source and you can't use IMDB. It's a real problem for festivals that don't all have accessible archives. I left a bit on the Venice Fest talk page. I think there's gotta be a better Venice source out there, but I don't know where it is. Maybe you can find it! Congrats again on the page! â SquawkGuard (talk) 01:26, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words and for providing additional context about IMDB--it led me to reidentify a source for the Venice film fest claim on Out of Evil page. Turns out, one of the sources you found for me verifies that claim, so I have added it to both that page and the Venice one. I am surprised that it seems to be hard to find digital photos of archival programs from these festivals. Humanists are known for their archival practices, and these ones are specifically into new media. HussainHx (talk) 02:03, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

Hounding on Wikipedia (or "wikihounding") is the singling out of one or more editors, joining discussions on multiple pages or topics they may edit or multiple debates where they contribute, to repeatedly confront or inhibit their work. This is with an apparent aim of creating irritation, annoyance, or distress to the other editor. Hounding usually involves following the target from place to place on Wikipedia.
Many users track other users' edits, although usually for collegial or administrative purposes. This should always be done with care, and with good cause, to avoid raising the suspicion that an editor's contributions are being followed to cause them distress, or out of revenge for a perceived slight. Correct use of an editor's history includes (but is not limited to) fixing unambiguous errors or violations of Wikipedia policy, or correcting related problems on multiple articles. In fact, such practices are recommended both for Recent changes patrol and WikiProject Spam. The contribution logs can be used in the dispute resolution process to gather evidence to be presented in incidents and arbitration cases. Using dispute resolution can itself constitute hounding if it involves persistently making frivolous or meritless complaints about another editor.
The important component of hounding is disruption to another user's own enjoyment of editing, or disruption to the project generally, for no overridingly constructive reason. Even if the individual edits themselves are not disruptive per se, "following another user around", if done to cause distress, or if accompanied by tendentiousness, personal attacks, or other disruptive behavior, may become a very serious matter and could result in blocks and other editing restrictions.

On hiatus
[edit]To my fellow editors:
In light of recent events, I have elected to take an indefinite leave from editing Wikipedia. Volunteering should always be a joy, but that has not been the case lately. If I offered assistance with a draft or article, please know that I am not able to fulfill that offer at this time.
For assistance with drafts related to violent civilian attacks, consider placing a request on the talk page for Wikipedia:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography, as those editors appear eager to help out and they bring a wealth of experience editing articles related to the topic.
If you would like assistance locating peer-reviewed journal articles about medical interventions, please consult a medical librarian at your local medical university. University affiliation is not typically a requirement for library consultation. Medical librarians are typically qualified to appraise articles in addition to locating them, but that takes time, so they may be better able to provide high-level notes to guide interpretation (e.g., "this is a basic research study in rodents so it is a promising avenue but cannot be considered solid evidence.") Many medical librarians may be found via the National Library of Medicine's directory.
If my talk page is on your watch list, I am glad you are interested in learning more about me. My user page has been updated to clarify my background and motivations for editing Wikipedia. Please respect my privacy and that of those I may know.
All of my options for notification which can be disabled have been disabled. Please do not attempt to contact me or anyone I may know.
Take care,
